Chichester parkrun #207: a cooler run!

After the monsoon yesterday, Oaklands Park welcomed 174 runners to a cooler but still sunny event. First over the line was Callum Stone on his 33rd parkrun and his first at Chichester, with a new personal best overall of 17:48. He runs in the 15-17 age category and has run most at East Grinstead and Tilgate events, so we hope he enjoyed ours and is proud of his achievement today.

Another notable first timer was Andrew Howard from Wanstead Flats parkrun. With 335 parkruns under his belt, Andrew is undertaking all parkruns within a 100 km of his East London base and he cycles to each one. The warm up obviously helps because he achieves respectable times at all venues and age gradings in the high 60s/70% bracket. Good luck with your challenge, Andrew!

We had 18 fabulous volunteers on team this morning: Michele SAUNDERS • Kevin WILLIAMS • John BETTS • Elaine CRUTTENDEN • Lynette WOODWARD • David PIKE • Geoff SUMNER • Ben RITCHIE • Jeremy HARRISON • Rob MOORE • Sanchia STANLEIGH-TURNER • Liz STANLEIGH-TURNER • Eleanor WHITTINGHAM • Janice BETTS • Sandra BALCOMBE • Tony HACK • Johanna HARRISON • Alison ARCHER. Please do email if you would like to be added to the list and earn a (free) purple t-shirt.

Out of our runners today, we had 27 first timers and 22 people got personal bests. Particularly well done to you! Don't worry if you didn't manage it today, there's always next week. Out of our runners, 35 people got age-graded scores of 60% or more so a very strong field today and everyone was finished in under 45 minutes.

We welcomed three generations of de Lacys too: heading the field were Lilian and Greg followed by Matt, and Robert. Good to see you all as always.

You can find the results here and the roster here if you want to put your name down to volunteer. Our junior event each Sunday, 9 am, Priory Park, is always looking for volunteers and indeed Run Directors. Run Directors need to go through a CRB check but anyone can volunteer as long as they're a registered parkrunner. It's a great way to top up your volunteer tally AND get your Saturday run if you like getting up at weekends. Email them at for more information or click here.

Don't forget, Chichester parkrun is cancelled on the 25th August so start planning your lie in or next tourist venue now!

Finally, I didn't mention this in the brief, but many people were at our sister event, Bognor parkrun, celebrating the life of Peter Chittenden this morning. A well-known face on the local running circuit, Peter passed away last Saturday but had been running until very recently, including organising his own very successful fundraising event for Chestnut Tree House only a couple of months ago on his 80th birthday. Peter came to Chichester parkrun many times to complete the course and his determination was inspirational. He will be sorely missed.

Enjoy your weekends one and all and see you next week. Thank you for another lovely event!
