New Years Day 2020

Chippenham parkrun
Event number 295
1st January 2020

Happy New Year! If you have been paying attention over the last 5 years you may remember that I deliver the New Years Day runners brief in rhyme. Steve Pomfret has continued with the prose and very kindly written the news report in rhyme;

It's January 1st, and its parkrun day.
So quite please, let Jules have her say.
Tourists came from far and near.
After seeing the map, their route was clear.
Today the briefing was given in rhyme.
The second field's muddy, a warning of grime.
We celebrated milestones, then welcomed first timers.
And enthusiastically applauded our lovely volunteers.
PBs were unlikely, although some would try.
Please stay to the left, let the fast runners by.
And so to the start.... And off we go.
Lots of parkrunners (437), it might be a bit slow.
So what's our story of the run?
Despite the mud it was great fun.
As I get older, I get slow.
Maybe Canicross is the way to go?
My wife was last,  bringing up the rear.
She was a Tailwalker, let's make that clear.
Two laps of the park and two of the mud,
You'll enjoy it more than you thought you could.
Into the funnel,  and collect your token.
Please get it scanned or the results will be broken.
Now wait for an email, or maybe a text.
And think about parkrun and where you'll go next
Thank you Steve. Now for some stats;
We had a not quite record-breaking but still a bumper 437 people hop, skipping and jumping round the course. We welcomed 21 first timers to the world of parkrun and 78 visitors from other parkruns. Despite the large numbers 43 people recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 42 different clubs took part.

Well done to all of the runners who completed the double (Melksham and Southwick)
