There were some spooky goings on in the park this morning! Grisly ghouls emerged from their grisly tombs and found their way into the park for the Halloween parkrun.

The presence of the witches, grim reapers and ghouls encouraged some runners to run super fast and 6 runners managed to achieve new PBs In total there were 133 creatures that ran, jogged and walked the course. We welcomed 7 first timers to parkrun and 16 visitors from other parkruns. Pete was RD today and did a marvellous job of keeping the Zombie brides away from their next victims!

A big congratulations to Lin Cox for achieving her 250th parkrun milestone. Lin has been running here since June 2014 and has completed 45 parkruns here. Lin actually lives near to another parkrun but she travels here by public transport because she likes our little parkrun! She is also a big supporter of Chippenham juniors as well. If she isn't running here or touring she is volunteering and she has volunteered an amazing 125 times - well done Lin!

Its that time of year when you dress for the cold but the sun comes out in all of its glory and it was hot! There were 214 'glowing' faces crossing the finish line in the (almost) tropical weather today. 38 of those runners achieved a PB, 6 were first timers to parkrun and 28 were visiting from other parkruns.
Last weekend a number of our runners took part in the London Marathon and the Virtual London Marathon and the field was awash with orange tshirts. Many thanks to Rachel Belcher for this weeks photos - including the one above of her son George who ran the marathon and raised money for the the Sailors Society. He also managed to get a parkrun PB! Here are a few more marathon runners including the lovely Julia who was todays RD;

Two of the runners achieved their 50th parkrun milestone today;
Rosemary Vinden began running here in March 2019 and has completed all 50 parkruns here at Chippenham.
Anne Butterworth began running here in September 2015 and has completed 47 parkruns here at Chippenham.

For the second week running we have had reports that people are still spitting. As per brief there is to be no Spitting - not at the start, the middle or the end. It is disgusting, unnecessary and no one wants to see it.
Please also be considerate of our Monkton Park neighbours when parking. The vast majority of local residents don't mind at all when parkrunners (or gym users, school pickups etc) avoid the parking charges and park on nearby roads, they are used to it! Please DO park considerately - a point raised this weekend was that cars were parked on both sides of the road and an emergency vehicle would not have been able to get through the gap
.
Finally, a reminder that we don't have sole use of the park. Do look out for other parkusers, shout Good Morning when passing, give them space and give way when necessary.

Thanks to the fabulous  22 volunteers who helped us to run the event they were:

Lisa MCCARTHY • Maisie Rose MCCARTHY • Andrew NICHOLSON • Alyson BRYANT • Gary IBBOTSON • Nicola JAMES • Julian DANTON • Julia MADDOCKS • Giles ARCHER • Valerie LIGHT • Julie BEAN • Jules PEARSON • Rachel BELCHER • Lottie BELCHER • Benedict COLLINS • Jake STEPHENS • Richard MORTEN • Matthew PENTECOST • Kate STEWART • David WEALES • Rick LAW • Genevieve COLLINS

Chris was the run director this week - and brought with him the rain! Chris is the longest serving member of the team, he was part of the original team that worked hard to set up Chippenham parkrun.

We have now entered Autumn a new season brings new challenges - slippery when wet! Not only do the leaves make the run downhill very interesting - the rain is turning the meadow into the muddy meadow!
Our timekeepers did especially well - it's a challenge timekeeping on the phone app with raindrops trying to time some runners over the line too! Many thanks to this weeks volunteers - without you we wound not have a parkun - especially in this weather!
Congratulations to this week's milestones:
50 - Andrew Nicholls - Andrew has completed all 50 of his parkruns with us at Chippenham  starting with us in February 2017
50 - Darren Moth - Darren celebrated his 50th with a PB! Darren has completed 46 of his 50 parkruns at Chippenham parkrun and has run at a total of 4 different events. He started with us on 11/11/2017.

Event number 314
11th September 2021

So much happened this week, lots of news to share and beware - there might be unicorns!

julesvalerie1

There is a new co Event Director in town! Valerie has been involved here at Chippenham parkrun since May 2014, she became a Run Director at Chippenham jnrs and moved to becoming a Run Director here in August 2016 and since then she has managed to rack up an amazing 323 volunteering sessions. This week with very little arm twisting she very kindly agreed to become my partner in crime and take on the role of the co-ED.

zoe

That is not all - we also warmly welcomed a new RD onto the team. Today marked Zoe's first time as RD at Chippenham and what a marvellous job she did, (though not her first time as a Run Director - she has previously been an RD at Bath Odddown jnrs and Hanworth jnrs). She is no stranger to volunteering having volunteered 169 times across 7 different events.

This week 196 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 34 were first timers and 29 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 24 different clubs took part.

Congratulations went to Kevin Cole for completing his 100th parkrun. Kevin's first parkrun at Chippenham was 3rd January 2015 (though his first was further Southwest the week before!) He has run at 12 different parkruns across the UK with 54 completed at Chippenham and 33 at Lydiard in Swindon! It was great to see Kevin choose to run at Chippenham and to celebrate with a rather lovely group of family and friends too - he even successfully negotiated the whole course with his balloon

You could call it a meeting of the minds, but it was more like a meeting of the craziness... During the pandemic the team over at Neckarufer parkrun in Esslingen, Germany starting putting on a quiz each week to try to bring their community together and to make sure no one felt alone... it didn't take long until more and more international parkrun fans had started to tune in each week - thanks to the brilliance of their quizzing, but also to see the weekly craziness from Nigel (their event director) who was the quizmaster! After many months of chatting to like-minded wonderful quiz fans that will really be friends for life for us all the planets finally aligned and we could make plans to meet up with our quizmaster and quiz producer Noms along with quite a few quiz fans from the South of the UK... and where better to meet than at Chippenham parkrun! You may have spotted us during the run as we all had following the dress theme of colourful... but none of us were quite expecting Nigel's brilliant costume of choice - the unicorn!  We all had an amazing time around what was described by some of our first-time visitors and quiz appreciators as "a beautiful parkrun with such a friendly and enthusiastic team". From all of the followers of the Neckarufer quiz that visited this morning - thank you to everyone at Chippenham for their enthusiasm, joy and friendliness!
