For our St Georges Day parkrun and owing to rally cars on the greensward, we had to revert to our original parkrun course from 2016. The change in course meant a change in direction, with runners having to go out along the top promenade and back along the bottom prom, sadly the wind direction was not in parkrunners favour.
This week 104 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 15 were first timers and 11 recorded new Personal Bests.
Our first three male finishers this week were: Birthday boy Mark JASPER (VM45-49), Paul HEALY (SM30-34) and Michael JANES (SM30-34), with both Paul and Michael being first timers at Clacton Seafront, and Mark recording the highest age grade score of the day.
Our first three female finishers this week were: Phoebe YOUNG (JW11-14), Vicky MOORE (VW45-49) and Katie SIGGERY (VW35-39). Whilst Phoebe managed to beat Auntie Vicky for the first time, Vicky actually recorded the highest female age grade score of the day – so I’d call that a draw !!
Three of our Clacton Seafront regulars were celebrating birthdays, congratulations to Brian BISHOP and Mark JASPER whose birthdays were on Saturday, and our wonderful regular volunteer Daniel CASEY whose birthday was on Sunday.
In addition to his birthday, Brian BISHOP was also celebrating his 100th parkrun – he was rewarded after the event with a hug from his granddaughter. Brian was at the first ever Clacton Seafront parkrun, and in addition to the 100 he has now completed, 97 of which have been at Clacton, he has volunteered over 25 times.
Sarah NEWTON was also celebrating her 100th parkrun. Sarah completed her first parkrun at Clacton event number 44 back in 2017, and since that first run has taken nearly 20 minutes off of her time. Well done Sarah.
As Clacton Seafront regulars will be aware, Core Team member Pete unexpectedly passed away in March, and his funeral will take place next week.
We are therefore suggesting that parkrunners at this weeks event wear something orange, in memory of Pete who spent a lot of his time and energy with the RNLI. A justgiving page has been created in Pete’s memory with donations going to the RNLI, if anyone would like to make a donation I have included the link : HERE
