Where poetry, poetry in motion and the competitive spirit combine
There were a few familiar faces missing from the front this week as they were away being part of the test run for our new second parkrun starting in Colchester this week. It seemed to take a few people by surprise and after everyone had sensibly lined up in order (thankyou all for that) there was a five meter gap to the start line that everyone seemed reluctant to fill. Using the lure of sweets and kind words we managed to coax them forward and we were finally off and away.
There was a minor hiccup with the finishing tokens but our wonderful volunteers were coolness personified and sorted it out without any dramas.
Now, I don’t know if it was the unseasonal spring like sunshine or if you lot have a new skin care regime but you all looked anywhere between 3 and 7% more gorgeous than usual, I hope this was reflected in any photos you had taken because you all looked like Gazelles out there.
Finally, during the week I got an email that got me thinking. Yes, it does happen occasionally. It was from the self-styled “parkrun poet” who after running our parkrun furnished us with a few verses.
a castle and snowdrops
castle hill now
what made Boudica mad
shimmy through the gate
Now, if I know parkrunners there will be a few of you who’ll be thinking “I could do a parkrun poem”. So. From the parkrun that brought you “Madgate” I introduce you to, drum roll please, Poetry Corner.
If you are feeling the flow please message or email your attempts in and we will try to publish as many as we can. Only one rule; swearing and swearing about hills is not permitted.
