We regret that we have to cancel our parkrun on 17th June as there are other events in both the Upper and Lower park during the weekend. We will be back with the Orange Route on 24th June. Enjoy a visit to one of our other local parkruns such as Mersea Island - should be a lovely day there!
Saturday 14th January is our 200th Colchester Castle parkrun and we hope you'll all come along to celebrate this milestone and bring along as many friends as you can!!!
Please be there early - 0845 at the latest as we have a small bit of business to conduct before our run - we are presenting our Automatic Emergency Defibrillator to Colchester Castle Park which will then be permanently located outside the Park Warden's Office in a secure cabinet but available for use by users of the Park by contacting the Emergency Services.
Also---- we want to get a "200" photo to replace our "100" one on Facebook! If anyone knows of anyone with a drone camera can they please ask them to get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org as we would really like to have a few drone photos of the day as well as the normal ones.
Also... if you have a parkrun tee shirt -apricot, white (10), red (50) or black (100) then do please wear it on the day. We don't have any 250 0r 500 shirts yet unless we have any tourists coming!!
This coming Saturday (27th August) we are taking part in the Join In, #IAMTEAMGB, ITV and National Lottery funded day of Sport to celebrate the success of our Olympics - Britain's best ever result.
Please do all you can to encourage someone who has not been to parkrun before to come along and try it (remember to get them to register and print off their barcode (www.parkrun.org.uk/register) and be there by 0845 for first timers briefing.
It will also be a pacer run as Running Colchester will be providing the Volunteers and pacers for the day.
There will be cakes and drinks available afterwards, so if you'd like to bring some cakes along, I am sure the runners would be very grateful!!
We will also be raising money towards parkrun's official charity - Alzheimer's Research UK (ARUK). John, our Event Director is running in the ARUK parkrun team at the Great North Run on 11th September and it would be great to help him towards raising his target of £1,000 for this very worthwhile charity - so don't forget to bring some money.....please!
Let's have a really big turnout for this special day and celebrate with #IAMTEAMGB
Next Saturday 11th June 2016 we are at Mill Road Sports Ground and Rugby Club and NOT at Castle Park. A nice flat course (what a change!) all on grass - your only chance this year. Don't forget and turn up at Castle Park!!! Parking is free too. See you there.............we hope!
Post code is CO4 5JF for your Sat Nav, if visiting.
As long as we get enough volunteers, we will be having a parkrun on Christmas Day and New Year's Day -both at 0900. They will be parkrun -lite, that is there will be little signage around the course which will be our modified normal route as the Winter Wonderland is still using the Upper Park. On New Year's day only, parkrun allow runners to register two parkruns - so if you want you will be able to run at Colchester and then either Chantry Park, Ipswich or Chelmsford, both of which will be having their parkrun on New Year's Day at 1030.
If you would like to volunteer on either of these days, do please e mail email@example.com.
This coming Saturday we are holding a "cake" day in support of Mencap. Menacp are an extremely deserving charity that do great work with the disabled and we are fortunate in Colchester in having one of their 113 Gateway centres, at Wilson Marriage. Also, Simon Moran, one of our regular parkrunners is running the Marathon des Sables next April - a 6 day 150 mile slog through the Sahara desert, and hoping to raise £9,500 for Mencap, of which he has so far raised more than £5,000. So our contribution on Saturday will go towards this. Please do bring some cakes, and/or some money and really enjoy your parkrun knowing that afterwards you can have a treat to reward yourself!! We also hope to have some hot coffee and tea on the Bandstand after the run to go with the cake!
Look forward to seeing a great turnout on Saturday - weather
We will be holding a New Year's Day parkrun starting at the Bandstand in Colchester Castle Park at 10.00 ( note one hour later than normal so you can have a lie-in after the New Year celebrations). There will be only a small support team and no signage around the course other than the Finish. We look forward to a great turnout.
We will be holding a Christmas Day parkrun using the usual "yellow" route starting at the Castle Park bandstand at 09:00 on Christmas Day Morning. There will be a minimal support team (so as many as possible can run) and no signage (we hope you know the course by now!). Any Santa Claus's going off duty are very welcome to join us!
As everyone surely knows by now our parkrun on 14th September is going to be a "Pacer" run, where clearly designated runners will run a set pace so you can try and achieve a PB. In the hope that many of you will, we will then celebrate with cakes afterwards - so do please also volunteer to bring some along to help the party go with a swing!!
Also on the same day, researchers from the Uiversity of Essex will be visiting in the hope that you will be enthusiastic in helping them conduct a scientific study. To participate, all they will be asking you to do is to complete two questionnaires - one before the run, and another one after the run. They will be attending our event on four occasions, two of which will be in another month or two's time. It is their hope that you might each be able to participate on two of the occasions - but this will be made clearer later on.
Unfortunately, there is a minimum age limit for this of 18 years old. The questionnaire will take about 5 or 6 minutes to complete. So, for those who usually arrive at the event shortly before the run starts, if there is any way that you can arrive 5 or even 10 minutes earlier so that you have time to complete the questionnaire before the run, that would be greatly appreciated.
It is hoped tha you will be willing to take part. This research is backed by parkrun headquarters and the findings will hopefully not only be of interest to you, but also might be useful for the parkrun movement when it comes to funding, amongst many other things.
So please do get involved, and be an important part of something that we hope you will find interesting.
