A new record was set at our beautiful, sunny Colwick Country Park this morning with a massive 366 runners taking part in our weekly parkrun. The crowds were so big that cars were still queuing out of the park as the 9am start approached! Arry could scarcely believe his luck when he delivered the first timers briefing to a crowd of 134 parkrunners that he needed the megaphone to be heard by everyone. They were hanging on his every word and he was entirely in his element!
As well as tourists from as far afield as Gedling and Rushcliffe, we welcomed a bumper crop of Notts Women Runners, resplendent in purple and here for their graduation. They made a splendid noise at the finishing line as they supported all their runners across the line, and they are a very welcome addition to our parkrun family. We also celebrated our Davids and Sarahs. They're the most popular names amongst registered parkrunners across the globe, so we called ours out of the crowd at the start line for a quick celebratory photo.
The Sun might have been shining, but it wouldn’t be Colwick without a few puddles and a bit of mud. The swamps around the 1km mark claimed at least three shoes as some runners bravely decided to dodge the puddles and head out into the mud. There’s a path under that puddles, you know! Well done to the 54 parkrunners who defied the conditions and ran a PB today.
A big thank you to our happy band of volunteers:
Roy SKELTON, Christine SKEATS, Pritesh PATEL, Sandy WATERLOW, Richard OWEN, Terry RODGERS and Emett the guide dog were your marshalls. Claire DUNKLEY and Louise JOHNSON led the walking group and Tim SORRELL was your blushing debutant run director.
Jon SHORT and Matt HEARN risked repetitive strain injury clicking you all in on the timers. Julie BRIDGES and Caitlin SORRELL handed out the finishing tokens and managed the funnel.
Abigail CAST, Cassie VIDLER and Arry NATHAN were your very busy barcode scanners.
Iain and James HICKMAN were your tail runners.
If you fancy having a go in the high-viz, then please jog along to the future roster and get your name down. We’d love to have you along and as you could probably tell from our smiles, it’s a lot of fun!
The icing on the cake today has to be Jessica and Stephen celebrating their engagement with us today by running the course in tutus. Many congratulations and thank you for the yummy cheesecake from everyone at Colwick! We hope to see you start the big day by running through the mud and puddles in top hat, tails and the full dress!
A visit to Daleside cafe provided the perfect end to a perfect morning. Multi-tasking Tim uploaded results in record time while Abi and Caitlin sorted out the position tokens ready for next week.
Please note that the walking group will be the first Saturday of every month from now on. The next one will be on April 2nd.
What a brilliant morning!
Thanks to you all for coming and we look forward to seeing you all at the bell next week.
