Event 390 – 29 December 2018. Betwixt and between

The volunteers arrived early on Saturday morning to set up for the last Colwick parkrun of 2018. As ever, they did so with the same enthusiasm as New Year's Day almost a whole year ago... if not more! What a parkrun year it's been... With a slight hint of mizzle, milder temperatures than of late and just the odd infamous puddle here and there, the conditions were almost perfect for running and for us kick start the final weekend of the year the best way we know how… with another brilliant parkrun.

The volunteers, aided by some Colwick stalwarts, proved to be more than adequate Hi-Vis heroes - run No. 390 passed just how we like it, with little fuss... but plenty of fun, enjoyment and achievement! A big thank you to every single one of those volunteers, their enthusiasm, big smiles and lots of festive spirit inspired a total of 251 parkrunners, walkers and joggers around our most picturesque and beautiful of settings.

We had the privilege of welcoming 33 newcomers with a further 22 recording personal best times. Of course parkrun is not a race but a little progress is always welcome... particularly after all that Christmas indulgence!!!

Despite several affirmative warnings from our super-friendly Run Director Tim, the prompt 9:04 start was still a little early for those expecting the usual relaxed start time. With the masses away and heading up towards the hairpin, those caught a little off-guard were soon on the tail on the main pack and on their way too...

Today’s magic milestone maker was John Tyas... John completed his 100th parkrun with us and even more impressively, every single one has been here at Colwick: a true Colwick parkrun passionista.

Further to that, what a 2018 it’s been for one of our visitors, Mary Gregory. She did her first ever parkrun on New Year's Day this year and today notched up her 50th, in just less than a calendar year. Congratulations to both! For everyone else, it was another notch towards their next milestone. It’s just shows if you keep up the good work, like John & Mary your next milestones will be creeping up on you before you know it.

We had representatives from 24 different running clubs and tourists today from as far and wide as London and the Lakes! The festive period further highlights just how a parkrun brings the whole running community together… as it does week in, week out, up and down the UK and across the globe worldwide...

With that spirit, achievement and pleasure, and as many disappeared back through the trees, the volunteers packed up before reconvening at the Daleside Café, for a bite to eat and for the result to be processed. As always it was packed with plenty of talk about another fine morning at the place we call home… ... when the results went live, the gratitude and good will was there to be seen all over social media! Keep sharing the love guys... but please remember parkrun is a team effort and just as with the volunteers, our events wouldn’t be what they are without our amazing participants who turn up come rain or shine! With everyone still on a high from a great morning... we have the added bonus of a midweek New Year's day parkrun (or 2) to look forward to! Let’s run, jog or walk into 2019... in the same vein we’re leaving 2018...

Be down for the later start of 10:30, the guys will be looking again to get you away prompt... before setting in for another 52 weeks offering of what we all know is the best possible start to the weekend!
