Cranleigh parkrun – Christmas Day

We are delighted to say that we will be hosting a parkrun in the festive surrounds of the Bruce McKenzie memorial park Knowle Lane, Cranleigh on the 25th December - come and work up an appetite and feel you have the moral high ground for the rest of the day! Normal start time of coffee shop afterwards...

Christmas and New Year’s Day

Now we're into the final quarter of the year, we're officially allowed to talk about Christmas!

We're pleased to confirm that Cranleigh parkrun will be hosting a couple of extra parkruns for you - one on Christmas Day and one on New Year's Day.

On Christmas Day, Cranleigh parkrun will take place at the usual time of 9am, giving you plenty of time to run and then get home to cook the turkey.

On New Year's Day, the start time will be a little later than usual at 10.30am. This allows time to a) recover from your hangover, or b) do the parkrun double and run first at Guildford parkrun at 9am. Your choice.

Note these are additional parkruns, with the usual Saturday parkruns at 9am still taking place.

We are of course looking for willing volunteers to help us out on both days. Please drop a line to if you're able to be a high vis hero on either or both days.

Christmas Day 2017 & New Year’s Day 2018

We know it's early, but we like to plan ahead here at Cranleigh parkrun and wanted to give you some advance notice of a couple of special events coming up.

There are only two days each year where parkrun allow extra events to take place. Yes, you've guessed it, Christmas Day and New Year's Day!

Cranleigh parkrun will be hosting an extra parkrun on Christmas Day this year!

This will start at 9am as usual. Despite some parkruns on Christmas Day starting at slightly different times, note you can only register one parkrun on Christmas Day.

Cranleigh parkrun will also be taking place on New Year's Day!

We've been chatting to our friends just up the road at Guildford parkrun to coordinate things, and have agreed that Cranleigh parkrun will start at 10.30am on New Year's Day.

This means you will be able (if you like) to run at Guildford parkrun at 9am, hop in the car and drive safely down to Cranleigh, and then run with us at 10.30am.

Please get in touch by email to if you would like to volunteer on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. The sooner we fill the roster the more relaxed we can be.

If you're away over Christmas or New Year, do keep an eye on the parkrun Christmas Compendium to find details of your nearest event.

Best wishes,
The Cranleigh parkrun core team

Christmas Day and New Year’s Day

Christmas Day and New Year's Day both fall on a Sunday this year.

We have decided NOT to hold an extra Cranleigh parkrun on these days, but WILL be running on Christmas Eve (Saturday 24th December 2016) and New Year's Day (Saturday 1st January 2017) as usual.

If you're looking for a nearby parkrun on Christmas Day, then Guildford parkrun have confirmed they are hosting an event (9am start). At the time of writing, Horsham parkrun remain undecided.

For New Year's Day, Guildford parkrun are also running at 9am. Alternatively, you might want to try the New Year's Day parkrun double, the only day of the year this is permitted. In previous years, this has been possible at Horsham parkrun followed by Tilgate parkrun, although both events are undecided at the time of writing, so keep an eye on their websites for details!

Cranleigh parkrun at Christmas

With only 69 sleeps until Christmas Day, Cranleigh parkrun has today declared its intention to NOT host an event on Christmas Day 2015 or New Year's Day 2016.

This was a tough call as we thoroughly enjoyed the festive atmosphere of Cranleigh parkrun on Christmas Day last year.

But this year, Christmas falls on a Friday, so holding a Christmas Day event would mean asking volunteers to come forward on consecutive days.

The same decision applies to New Year's Day, which falls on Friday 1st January 2016.

The good news is, it's our intention (subject to getting enough volunteers) to run on Boxing Day (Saturday 26th December 2015) and also Saturday 2nd January 2016, so there will be some good opportunities to burn off that turkey and make a start on your resolutions.

Keep an eye on the parkrun Christmas Compendium for confirmation of which events are hosting a parkrun on Christmas Day or New Year's Day this year.

We see that Frimley Lodge have declared they will run on Christmas Day. For New Year's Day, why not consider the Tilgate/Horsham double?
