This year's Crichton parkrun Santa dash will be on Saturday 21st December.
We will be holding a special party for our 100th Crichton parkrun on 14th December 2019. Come and join us for our special back to front route!
We will be holding a New Year parkrun on 1st January 2020 at 11am.
I have visited Dumfries and surrounding areas a couple of times now, today was the first time the opportunity had arisen to run at Crichton, a nice course set inside a beautiful estate with a nice variety of twists and turns with tarmac and a little park path to keep the interest up.
It’s fair to say today’s event will be remembered by all who were there for the spectacular rain that mother nature provided before, during and after the event! As our small party of 4 tourists turned up, we could see a group of people donned in their running gear huddled under a tree next to the church (trying in vain to gain any shelter available from the deluge which was turning paths into streams!).
We were encouraged to come along by the facebook post from the official Crichton Park account proclaiming “skin is waterproof, no excuses. Run!” A total of 85 runners took the message on board and took on the course.
The first finisher was David Parrish in an impressive 17”54, the first female home was Alison Banford in 21”23 (knocking over a minute from her previous PB). There were 33 first timers to Crichton including 4 people running their first ever parkrun (Ross Wellburn catching the eye with a 3rd place finish in 19”47 and a JM11-14 runner, Seb Metcalfe taking part in his first run). Hopefully the conditions will not have put them off running again soon! There were also 7 new PBs set today.
Saltburn Harriers visited with 10 runners and as you might imagine in August, tourists from various parts of the UK visited today including our party from Watford, Sandbach and Bradford.
There were no major landmarks but a few worth mentioning; Rachel McCracken on a huge 226, Bill Wilson reaching 125, Sean Mcgleenen of the local Dumfries Harriers hitting 60 Parkruns and Louis Faure in the JM15-17 category completing his 10th Parkrun.
Extra special mention to the warm welcome from the volunteers who were equally as soaked to the skin as us runners, but without the benefit of working up some warmth by moving! Each and everyone gave us the warm welcome and ‘buckets full’ of encouragement around the course – huge thanks to Martin BROWN, George CONCHIE, Elspeth CONCHIE, Caroline COPLAND, Emma EDEN, Sandra EDGAR, Martine HENDERSON, Shirley MACFARLANE, Angela MCDONALD, Dave MCQUILLEN, Neil MOFFAT, Les SHEARER, Bobby SLOAN, James TAYLOR, Drena THOMSON, Rowan WILSON. One additional volunteer, Etta the guide dog in training was tail walking for the last time today as she is moving on to the next part of her training, this was great to see!
Finally, huge thanks to the staff at the Bistro/Spa who welcomed, fed and watered some very wet visitors after the run!
I look forward to my next visit, hopefully in drier weather!
We will be running a little late this Saturday (16th June 2018) due to the Riding of the Marches. Start time will be 10am at the Crichton Church.
