14th Dec 2019 – Milestones!

Thanks to some heavy rainfall last week, the course on Saturday was a very muddy one to say the least! Still it didn’t put anyone off and a total of 240 parkrunners gave Peppa Pig a run for her money!

Our Run Director this week was the wonderful Jennie, who after making sure all of the volunteers were briefed on their role, gave a first timers briefing and got the run underway. We had 6 Crocky newbies, 4 of those were brand new to parkrun, welcome to the parkun family Kenneth, Julia, Sean and Justine, what a fantastic decision you have made. We had 2 tourists visiting Crocky parkrun for the first time, Benjamin and Trevor (Trevor has wracked up an impressive 339 parkruns!).

I think it’s only right that this weeks run report focuses on the amazing milestones that were reached today from both runners and volunteers.

We had FIVE runners reach their 50 parkruns milestone, a huge well done to:

  • Thomas DEMPSEY (SM30-34)
  • Shaun RILEY (SM30-34)
  • Ian COCKBURN (VM55-59)
  • Daniel POPE (VM35-39)
  • Shirley O’BRIEN (VW55-59)

We also had TWO runners reach their 100 parkruns milestone, another huge well done to:

  • F Debra DONNELLY (VW55-59)
  • Andrew SNELSON (VM50-54) – Andrew also got himself a PB!

From the results, I can see couple of people will be reaching big milestones next week. If this is you and you want to shout it from the rooftops, send us a message on Facebook, Twitter or via email and we’ll be sure to give you a big Crocky shout-out before your run.

So, this moves us onto the Volunteer milestones. Unlike runners, the Volunteers official milestone is 25. However, it's only fair that we celebrate the incredible milestones of TWO of our amazing team - Samathana Horne and Carol Platt.

If you’ve been coming to Croxteth Hall parkrun for a while, you will have seen the delightful Samantha Horne out on the course volunteering with her amazing Mum and Dad, Tanya and Mark.

Sam is only 10 years old and has wracked up an incredible 100 volunteer stints - ye you read that right, 100! How mind-blowing is that? From speaking to Mark (Sam’s dad), he informed me that Sam started her volunteer journey when she was just 6 years old, wow! What’s remarkable about Sam is that she is always smiling, never complaining and is out there in all weathers with her family showing you all lots of support and encouragement. I very much doubt, there is anyone who comes close to Sam’s achievement across the parkrun family and this is certainly one that we should celebrate.

Sam’s family kindly brought a delicious cake to help mark the occasion. Here’s to another 100 Sam, thank you for giving up your Saturday mornings, be assured that you bring so much joy to both our runners and volunteers just by being you.

Another volunteer milestone we celebrated was Carol Platt who has reached a remarkable 200 volunteer stints. Carol started off her volunteer journey back in 2015 and if my math’s serves me right, Carol would have needed to volunteer pretty much every Saturday for the past 4 years to reach her 200, now that is commitment! I mean who doesn’t wish they could have a lie in on a Saturday!

Carol is a very much loved and valued member of the Core Team who splits her time between Run Director and various other on the ground roles. Carol brings such a happy, fun spirit with her and it’s a pleasure to spend a Saturday morning with her. There truly is never a dull moment, when Carol is around!
