Update

We hope your all well and staying safe.

We are all missing everyone and parkrun. We have recently had a virtual meet up via a zoom video call with some of our core volunteers. We have decided to try do a zoom call with some of you as well. Please see the facebook group for more information or email cyclopark@parkrun.com. It will be 16th May at 11am in the form of a parkrun quiz. Questions about parkrun and cyclopark parkrun. All a bit of fun so we can stay connected and see some friendly faces

This is the latest update from parkrun in full and HQ posts out every Tuesday

https://blog.parkrun.com/uk/tag/covid-19/

Thanks again to all the event teams and ambassadors who have generously given us their time over the last few weeks, and shared the challenges they are facing at local level around the world.

We have now spoken directly to over 700 of those volunteers and continue to gain valuable insight.

Based on those conversations there are three key points we would like to share in this week’s update.

Firstly, the decision to re-open any parkrun country will be made by parkrun Global (the UK-based charity) in collaboration with staff or senior volunteers in that country, and alongside relevant and local public health guidance.

All public announcements of parkrun countries reopening (or not) will be made firstly through this weekly update. Anything you see outside of this channel is not necessarily the official position of parkrun, and we will not be commenting on speculation or rumours.

Secondly, we continue to see governments release greater detail around how they plan to relax restrictions in their region. In some cases this is, understandably, leading to questions from the parkrun community with regards where parkrun may fit into those timelines.

At this moment we do not see any country we operate in presenting guidelines that would reasonably accommodate parkrun events in the near future. Should that change this will be the first place we make any comment.

Importantly, we will not consider opening parkrun countries anywhere where there is even a small chance of exceeding participant limits for public gatherings at a single event.

Also, at this time, we are not considering starting events where doing so would mean participants or volunteers are required to maintain a certain distance between each other.

Thirdly, in most countries we operate in it is likely to be several months before we consider it appropriate to reopen our events. By then, the world’s understanding of this virus will be very different, as will society’s feelings about it.

As such we do not believe it sensible to comment on the many social distancing or hygiene-based suggestions currently being proposed as ways to either get parkrun up and running as soon as possible or to mitigate any risks when we do return.

To reiterate a point from a previous update, in all instances we will be taking a cautious approach to re-opening our events. We will only be doing so where both that country’s specific public health guidelines comfortably allow, and where we can be confident that our volunteer teams will not be placed under undue pressure.

Thanks for your continued patience, understanding, and support.

We will get through this, together.

DIG DEEP

We all love our regular volunteer Patrick and his shouts of encouragement one being "DIG DEEP" quite fitting for these strange times we are in. It is time for us all to dig deep and look after one another.  Although we are all staying at home that is not stopping us keeping in contact or doing some for of exercise. One of our volunteers has set up a facebook page that you can all join and there have been lots of support and photos shared. A great way to keep in contact and share photos and laughs from the past. Many of you are still getting out (sticking to the guidlines)

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people

Some of you have been quite inventive , Renee hosted her own back garden parkrun and co ED Ian has found virtual running on the treadmill to keep him going.

On the plus side being at home some of our volunteers have been polishing up on some cake baking skills so we certainly look forward to tasting some of these at parkrun

What ever your doing please stay safe and know that we are all missing you and we are all here for you. Here are some photos that have been shared recently and we will return as soon as we can. Lots has changed since Saturday

IMG_4516-300x300

As your probably aware by now all parkruns have been cancelled in the UK for the rest of March at the moment. Please keep your eyes on our social media sites as well as parkrun uk social media for updates on this.

These are challenging times for us all, one of our volunteers has set up a community facebook group have a look here https://www.facebook.com/groups/812103089200579/  and join.

Please do not arrange any group runs especially at any parkrun locations this could have a future negative impact on parkrun.

With that all said back to Saturday just gone and we had a young man Zachary complete his 100th parkrun. A massive achievement for everyone but a special well done to Zachary who is only 8 years old. As he has progressed his running he has been helped by Mike who often runs with him at parkrun and Saturday finished in style with a new PB congratulations and we look forward to seeing you back once were live again in your new 100 tee shirt. Great work

#IWDparkrun

This week parkruns all over celebrated international womens day including us. It was great to see so many ladies including first time ladies come along. We hope you all had as much fun as we did.

We had tourists from other local events some of which had to cancel due to flooding. Maidstones Ed and regional parkrun ambassador Donna came along, she came and tail walked our test event so it was fantastic to see her return and run the event officially.

17

This week 238 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 70 were first timers and  and incredible 69 recorded new Personal Bests.

We think this was helped by our pacers which were introduced for the first time. Thanks to (in no particular order) Rebecca, Colin, Karl, Stephen, Gary and Renee. Thank you and we will be doing pacers week again soon.

29th February 2020 – Event #34

Reverse

29th February for the first time fell on parkrun day, this meant nobody had ever run/walked or volunteered at parkrun on 29th of February. To celebrate this we done the course in reverse. We started at the same place but sent you all off down the incline. We had A mixed response on feedback but fear not normal service will resume this coming parkrun day and we are back to the KEEP LEFT shouts.

The weather was very cold and wet Saturday but that didn't put you off we had 161 people turn out and we have to say A massive thank you to all the volunteers who were by the end all wet and cold. The post event tea and coffee inside certainly helped everyone get warm again.

All the kit including the flags were soaked but it has all been washed and dried ready for next parkrun day.

We did attempt a leap box for leap year but sadly the rain took care of that after the first lap it had gone. That didn't stop Jo grabbing some great shots
