Olympics going for gold @ Cyclopark Parkrun 7th August 2021

Evening, hope your all having the best Sunday and your feeling good after yesterdays parkrun.  It was great to see you all.

This weeks Parkrun had two themes for me;

1. The Olympic Games

The determination was definitely in the air, everyone was feeling energised and motivated and that really showed in the results this week - you all deserve a gold medal for taking on the challenging but rewarding Cyclopark Incline ha ha

2. Family

PHOTO-2021-08-07-13-56-47IMG_0930_Original (1) - Copy

This week we had our very own family affair with our lovely new volunteer Becky marshalling the course with her beautiful baby girl whilst nanny ran the course.  I also met the father and son duo Peter and Terry Wightwick running together spurring each other on which resulted in a PB for son Peter taking a huge 15 seconds on his previous weeks time - well done to you both.

IMG_0922_Original

Celebrating PB's are so important and very exciting so I thought id give a shout out to all eleven runners who managed to beat their previous course times.  One of our regular runners Karl Firmin achieved a sub 30, his THIRD PB in a row since Parkrun has been back and a huge 59 seconds off last weeks runtime - well done.

Saturdays full results and a complete event history can be found on the Cyclopark parkrun Results Page.

Thank you to our regular volunteers for supporting the event on Saturday but also for the new volunteers coming forward each week and offering extra help - keep them offers coming, we always need your help and its much appreciated.

The event was made possible by 14 volunteers:

Sarah POYNTER • Ayodele OLUSANYA • Amy WILDERS • Paul SLATTER • Becky GUNNINGHAM • Karen STRAIN • Clare DRISCOLL • Sarah CLARK • Vickie BULLOCK • Rebecca BROOKER • Caitlin BRAYSFORD • Patrick BAKER • Evie POYNTER • Amanda RATCLIFFE

I hope we see you next Saturday morning for some more parkrun fun.

I want to take a moment to say thank you to our volunteers who make it possible every week for the event to take place - we had 18 volunteers who helped run the event.

This Week back to parkrun

YES!! We're back.

It'll be parkrun, mostly as you know it but with a few small changes to make it as safe as we can. We'd really appreciate your help:
1. Follow all national and local guidance. Please do not come if you feel unwell noting that COVID and common cold systems can easily be confused.
2. Please check our Risk Assessment https://wiki.parkrun.com/index.php/Cyclopark_parkrun/Risk_Assessmentand be aware of the mitigations in place. Assess your personal risk noting that no events are 100% risk free

3. If possible walk to the Cyclopark to avoid crowding in the car park. Please note parking will be in the overflow and charges still apply
4. Please try to maintain social distancing wherever possible. We appreciate this might be hard before and after the event. Note that our volunteers are limited to "gentle encouragement" and are not responsible for the "policing" of people's behaviour.
5. Please be kind to our volunteers and supportive of anyone who needs or wishes to wear items of PPE.
6. Pre-run briefings (which will be held infront of the Cyclopark building) will be kept short to minimise the time during which people are gathered at the start. Please help us by not talking during the briefing, and by paying careful attention to the information given. Regretfully we will not be doing "shout outs" for milestones, birthdays etc.
7. Our start area is not massively wide, therefore we kindly ask you to "grade" yourself so that faster runners are to the front and slower to the back. This will allow the start to "flow" with less congestion.
8. During the run please don't shout or spit. Do be aware of other park users who have just as much right to be on the path and may be concerned to see higher numbers than usual. REMEMBER KEEP LEFT
9. Please slow down as you approach the finish funnel, walk through and collect your token on exit by holding out your open hand at arms length. The finish token volunteer will drop the token into your hand, also at arms length to maximise physical separation.
10. If you’ve smashed your run but are huffing and puffing a bit, please do consider moving away from the finish area to regain control of your breathing before getting scanned.
11. We will have more barcode scanner volunteers than before - please join the smallest queue, again remembering to keep your distance where possible and don't block the course itself. Please note scanning will be at the front of the Cyclopark building
12. Please have your personal barcode ready and present with the finish token at arms length to the scanning volunteer. Once scanned, drop the finish token into the bucket in front of the volunteer. Remember barcode scanning is to be contact free.
13. It is your responsibility to present a scannable barcode. If your barcode doesn't scan it will not be possible for your time to be recorded.
14. After scanning please move away from the area as quickly as possible.
Helping us by following the guidance above will make compliance with the parkrun COVID framework easier for us and we thank you in advance!
We would also appreciate you sharing this information with anyone you know that is not either on social media or have access to the internet.
Our volunteers will be using the new updated Virtual Volunteer App (video tutorial here) instead of dedicated stopwatches and opticon barcode scanners. So if you are considering volunteering please download from the apple or android app stores.

A Year Has Gone By

We can't believe it has been a year since we last met in person at parkrun but in that time since not parkrun started 2459 not parkruns for Cyclopark have been logged thats 7622 miles ran/walked between everyone with our most participants in one week being 56 which is amazing well done everyone. Lets keep going and maybe we can break 60 for one week. Keep looking at parkrun UK social media and emails for updates on our return but we hope this to be in June.

Things are hotting up with the first person to reach 100 not parkruns for Cyclopark with Ben, Karen and Karl all in the high 80's

Kent League

We finished 5th in the Kent League last week finishing just one person short of the record for the number of people that logged a not parkrun our record is 56. A total of 2125 not parkruns were logged for Kent thats an impressive 6587 miles between everyone

well done to 9 of you who also logged a PB

Why don't you see if you can get a friend on board walking/jogging a 5k it can be a walk to the shop and walk home to make it up to 5k it all counts and it would be fantastic to see some more new starters. See the bottom of the run report for details on how to register and log not parkruns

so how do you get involved ? well follow these steps and get those not parkruns logged

Lonely Little Barcode

ben

One lonely little barcode looking for a new partner to share new parkruns with.

Previously was in a long-term relationship from July 2012 until March 2020, where it abruptly ended.

Likes: Touring, Running Challenges, Volunteering and meeting new Barcode Scanners

Dreams: Always wanted to visit Australia.

So if you're a lucky parkrun jogger/walker or volunteer looking for new milestones just like me, please give me a scan from your Virtual Volunteer App.

thanks for sharing Ben whom come across his barcode in the back of his phone case where it has been waiting ready for when we return

The weather has been very interesting the last week, snow, ice, wind and very cold but still many of you have been getting out. This week temperatures are set to be higher although some rain is forecast.
