A very special guest

Event number 53 will not be forgotten quickly as we were visited by Olympian and local legend, Adam Gemili. ("How did this happen?" I hear you cry) Some of you may remember one of our regular runners, Matilda Holliday, had written to Adam asking him to come down. Well, it worked and he did!

Taking time out of his busy training schedule, Adam helped present 6 milestone wristbands (well done to you all!) as well as taking part in our warm up. We had a great morning filled with photos and signed barcodes.

On the start line:

We had 52 runners complete the course and here are some amazing stats:

  • 10 First Timers (Hello! Let us know how you got on over on our Facebook page)
  • 5 Personal Bests - Well done!
  • 6 Unknown runners - Don't forget your barcodes!!!

A big thank you to all the volunteers for giving up your time to make this a fun, safe and High-five filled event!

Before you go, there are just a couple of quick future announcements:

1. Please note we are cancelled next weekend (Sunday 16th July) for the Dartford Festival - Gravesend, Lesnes Abbey and Eltham are all fantastic local events, if you still want to get your run in! - Keep us posted about your adventures on our Facebook page

2. We need volunteers on Sunday 23rd July as some of the regular faces are on holiday. Please contact us by email: dartford-juniorsoffice@parkrun.com or on our Facebook page if you'd like to get involved. Please give volunteering a whirl; it makes you feel great, you're giving back to others and without your help we cannot run the event.

Stay safe and see you in two weeks!

Saying a big “Thank you!” to our first Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteer!

This week was our 51st event and I think we all appreciated the fresh breeze cooling down our 46 junior runners - this included 3 new parkrunners (hello and welcome!).

Our events would not be possible if it wasn't for a fantastic team of volunteers who give up their time to keep our runners safe and help make the event run smoothly. This week we are sending a big thank you to our Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteer, Leanna, who dedicated 12 weeks to volunteering at parkrun. During her placement, Leanna did a variety of roles from Marshalling to Finish Tokens and Barcode scanning, mucking in and swiftly becoming part of the parkrun community. If you know of anyone interested in undertaking their DofE with us then you can find out more info here or contact us at: dartford-juniorsoffice@parkrun.com

Thank you for your help, Leanna!

We enjoyed another great morning of running today and we would love to know why you love parkrun too! We know we have some very creative runners and we think it would be awesome to see your pictures, drawings, poems or stories showing this. You can send them to the Dartford junior parkrun facebook page for us to share how much fun it can be! It's all about #loveparkrun

Hope you have a great week and we'll see you next Sunday!

We are a whole 1 year old!

We have had a very fun year at Dartford and there was no better way to celebrate than showcasing our Superhero talents! Our anniversary event saw Supermen, Wonder Women, the Incredible Hulk and even a Ninja Turtle complete our very sunny 2km course. The 43 fantastic runners were rewarded with one of our British Bake-Off worthy cake and goodies made by our wonderful volunteer, Jane. Well, you can't have a birthday without a cake, can you? We also celebrated the dedication and the work of two of our juniors but we will tell you a little more about this in our next run report...

It has been an amazing year and the event is growing with new runners every week (we had 9 First Timers on Sunday!). We have been supported by the hard work of all the juniors, parents/carers and the volunteers who are making a welcoming event for the first timers and making it official; there is no better way to start your Sunday!

Now is a great time to tell you about our next exciting event. On Saturday 10th June (from 8:45), Dartford junior parkrun will be 'taking over' the 5km event. We are looking for juniors to don a big green foam finger and help marshal the event (with their parents/carers), support the runners and help us show 250 adults what Dartford juniors is all about (it'll be worth it to see them do the warm up!) . If you would like to join us then please contact us at: dartford-juniorsoffice@parkrun.com

Lastly, we will be doing weekly posts right here: It's a great way to keep up to date with all the news and events 'from the field'. You can also join in the conversation over on our Facebook page. See you all Sunday!

Event #31 – Brrrrr! and “where has the time gone?”

Dartford's Central Park looked beautiful with a crisp frost on the grass as the team set up. The recent wintry weather reminded me that our fantastic run has seen all the seasons! That means our runners have completed the course in all weathers; brilliant work! This week saw 11 junior athletes finish with no fear of the cold.

We should all be looking forward to the exciting year ahead. We had a great time with some Halloween and New Year fun and all the Volunteer team are eager to put on more fun-themed Sundays. We would also like to look forward to welcoming new runners to come and enjoy the course. For that, we would love for anyone who has had a great Sunday morning with us to spread the word: tell your friends, relatives, classmates, neighbours, anyone you think of! We have flyers too so come and see one of the team and we can give these to you.

This week we welcomed Isabelle MAY and Catherine DEKKER on their debut runs with us. Isabelle's Mum also grabbed a high-vis and joined our funky bunch of volunteers, a big "thank you" to you all for your help:

John COOK, Adam DUNGER, Glen FREEMAN, Lila FREEMAN, Tracey GOODWIN, Jane GOUGH, Tessa HAMPTON, Esther HUNT, Adam HUNT, Roger HURLEY, Kayley LOFT, Julie MAY, Angela O'SULLIVAN, Archie SHAW

We hope you all have a safe week and we'll see you on Sunday!

Sunday 23rd October – We’re cancelled

Unfortunately when we arrived at the park this morning to set up, the visibility was too poor to see across the park therefore we had to take the difficult decision to cancel the event for the safety of the children. We must be able to see them at all times in all places throughout the course, and we couldn't today.

We will hopefully be back on the 30th, but remember we're cancelled due to bonfire night on the 6th November.

Regards

Angie and the team
