International Womens Day parkrun- 7th March 2020.

Good evening.

parkrun are supporting International Women's day (IWD) held on the 8th March 2020.

One of parkrun partner's -  Sport England has created a new campaign "This Girl Can" which is supporting  International Women's day (IWD)

The objective is for a International parkrun celebration event at parkrun locations which are  female focused on Saturday 7th March 2020 at 9am.

parkrun and Sport England research shows us that, across the world, women are less likely than men to take part in parkrun.

Despite the fact that females make 54% of registrations, they are less likely than men to take part in parkrun and to continue participating.

IWD parkrun is a fantastic opportunity to encourage more women and girls to participate in parkrun events all over the world.

The purpose is to celebrate and support women continuing to participate in sport, it will still be the normal format for parkrun. Free timed 5K event for everyone starting at 9am.

The event  on the 7th March 2020 is not just for women everyone is welcome , as you know Dartford is welcoming to everyone who wants to partake in our parkrun.

We will update further once we have more details of the event.

We look forward to seeing you in Dartford Central park  for a 9am start.

Introducing Gravesend Junior Parkrun

For runners between 4 and 14 years old, there's now a Junior parkrun event just down the A226 in Gravesend!

The first event will be held on Sunday 2nd November, and the venue will be Riverside Leisure Area, Milton Place, Gravesend, Kent, DA12 2BT.

More information can be found on their website at:

Q: So what's the difference?  Children can take part in 'normal' parkrun, can't they?

A: Of course they can (although runners under 11 should be accompanied by an adult during a 'normal' parkrun).  These are the differences:

  • Junior parkruns are held on Sunday mornings at 09:30, so there's no clash with the parkruns that start on Saturdays at 09:00.
  • Junior parkruns are 2km (instead of 5km), which may suit younger children or those new to long-distance running.
  • At Junior parkrun, there is no requirement for the runners to be accompanied by an adult during the run (unless they want to be) - they can run at their own pace.

Everything else is familiar to parkrunners.  The runners still need to take a printed barcode, and the events are still dependent on volunteer support to make them happen.  If you are an adult, or you have a child who would like to take part, please consider lending your time as a volunteer - you'll still be there to watch your junior superstar in action!

This is an exciting development for Kent's young people, and all of us at Dartford parkrun wish the Gravesend Junior parkrun Team all the best for the future.

Dartford Half Marathon 2015

Dartford Harriers have confirmed that the 2015 Dartford Half Marathon will be held on 15th March next year.  This is much earlier in the year than has traditionally been the case.

For information about the race and how to enter, please go to the dedicated website for this event at

This event is tough, but very well organised and enjoyable.  If you're a regular parkrunner, and you want to take your running to the next level of endurance, this is a great one to aim for.
