What a great place for a parkrun. It's amazing that such wilderness areas still exist so close to central London, once you're away from the roads you could be anywhere. As I ran across the Heath from Crayford station looking for the start, I was a bit concerned about getting lost, as all the paths look the same. I manèged to find the donkey pond eventually though, but at this time of year there was not much pond and sadly absolutely no donkeys.
I needn't have worried about getting lost on the run itself, as it was excellently signed and marshalled. This seems a good time to thank the very enthusiastic marshals and indeed all of the 13 excellent volunteers who turned out and helped to put the run on. Remember parkrun needs volunteers to happen each week. If you haven't yet tried it, it's easy to do and full instructions are given, please contact us via the volunteer webpage, or via Facebook of you'd like to know more.
Attendance was boosted by the cancellation of near neighbour Dartford parkrun and a field of 162 turned out for a run around the heath, the second highest attendance so far. Although this was only the 10th Dartford Heath parkrun, you were an experienced bunch, with 6 members of the 250 runs club, 38 members of the 100 club and 35 members of the 50 club taking part. Particular congratulations to Tracy Balfe, who was doing her 50th run and so joining the 50 club this week. Enjoy your 50 Runs T shirt Tracey
At the other end of the scale 8 of you were doing your very 1st parkrun. Welcome to all of you, I hope you enjoyed it and will be back for many more.
Of those who had run before, the fine, sunny conditions and encouragement from the marshals spurred 19 of you on to get new PBs. Well done if you were one of those who got one, if not there's always next week.
