Event 20 – The first frost!

I checked the thermometer this morning, and it was officially chilly. But did that deter the 51 runners who came to Daventry Junior Parkrun this morning - you know the answer to that! With a beautiful blue sky as the backdrop, 5 runners speeded their way through to a PB. A big shout out too to the 4 first timers - we hope to see you again soon.

A particular thanks to the volunteers, who struggled with numb fingers to scan your barcodes and cheer you on - the event couldn’t happen without you, so many thank you’s to all the volunteers. And a special mention to one volunteer - Simon Elliott, who managed to timetable in volunteering as a VI guide into his 50th birthday celebrations, well done to Scarlett for ensuring that he built up a sweat!

Event 14 – The one with no rain

The sky was dark, the grass was wet, the forecast had been dubious. But the sun, who is a regular volunteer at Daventry Junior Parkrun, saw its name on the roster and didn’t let us down. Neither did the fabulous team of volunteers, who provided a bursting roster, despite a number of the core team being absent - thank you so much.

And despite the slightly slippy surface, 18 speedy runners managed PBs this week, one of whom was Arthur Tilt, while doing so he also shaved a few seconds off the course record. Event 10 – August bank holiday special

I was concerned that we may have a muddy course following the torrential thunderstorm downpours yesterday but it was in good condition and the sun broke through to give us a lovely summer bank holiday parkrun. Despite the inevitable long weekend getaway we had a good turnout of runners and a full volunteer roster!  We were concerned that we may not have enough volunteers this week but we shouldn’t have doubted you - well done and thank you for your invaluable support, you are all stars.

It was a close sprint finish with Lewis and Trinity coming home first and second over the line. A warm welcome to the 10 first timers, we hope you comeback for more, and big cheers to the 11 runners who got personal best times. It was a case of ‘special funnel part 2’ as the funnel poles were still locked away (I think the caretaker is back off holiday next week so we should be back to normal!)

We are still short of marshals and a tail runner for next week and have lots of volunteer spaces for the next few weeks after that. It would be greatly appreciated if you are able to help.

Male placings: Lewis MIDDLETON (JM10) of Daventry AAC, was first over the line in 08:29 - second time in 5 appearances. Matthew ELLIOTT (JM11-14) of Rugby & Northampton AC, was second (6th overall) over the line in 10:47. Cameron JONES (JM11-14) (Unattached) was third (7th overall) over the line in 10:48.

Female placings: Trinity MCCLEARY (JW11-14) (Unattached) was first (second overall) over the line in 08:30 - 5th time in 7 appearances. Kaicie JONES (JW11-14) (Unattached) was second (third overall) over the line in 10:10. Mary HERBERT (JW10) (Unattached) was third (4th overall) over the line in 10:20.

Event 9 – The one with the special funnel

With just a few hours passing between Mo Farah being incredible and winning another gold in the 5000m, it was not surprising that there were plenty of inspired runners today - a big welcome to the 9 first timers, and big cheers for the 22 PB's. Sadly for Mo, he had to cross the line through a standard arrangement finish line, while the 62 runners at Daventry Juniors were able to enjoy a ‘new-style’ funnel of cones. Before you tell all your friends about it however, the new style of funnel was for one week only, (unless the funnel poles are locked in the changing rooms again on another week!).

Even before the run started, the volunteers and the runners couldn’t contain their Mo inspired excitement, and you can find some great photos on facebook of ‘mobot fever’ well and truly taking over in Daventry!

A special thanks to those who signed up to volunteer over the next few weeks - and a mention for next week, when we are particularly short of volunteers, and would really appreciate any further offers - thanks in anticipation!
