Delamere parkrun #359, September 25th 2021

These reports usually start with a comment about the weather, but the ‘warm/frosty/chucking-it-down’ issue is irrelevant to this week’s team of run-reporters: we’re happy to follow the route come rain or shine.

This morning we had our usual meet-and-greet session at our posh new starting point, which we’re pretty chuffed with. Once we’d all said hello to each other in our own distinctive fashion and listed to the marshal’s brief, we stood and waited patiently for the signal to move off (except for Sid, who was on his usual wriggly jumping-jack setting).

We’re a close-knit group at the start and we always set off as a bunch, egging each other on whilst sometimes still finishing off our pre-parkrun chat, but once we’re past the bridge we tend to spread out as each of us has their own speed, strategy and stopping needs. And that’s exactly how it went this morning.

We love Delamere – so much to see and sniff and roll in. But we have to concentrate, and this morning was no exception. We are the invisible ‘unknowns’: we all successfully crossed the finish line today yet don’t get officially recognised for our sterling efforts on the results table. We’re cool with that. We’re born runners and we just get on with it. And at the end of the day, our refreshments are free.

We’re all looking forward to it at the same time next week!

This week 13 hounds ran the course; none were first timers and all of them would have recorded PBs had they been given free rein. Representatives of various breeds took part. Congrats to the black lab who came in first.

This week 251 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 39 were first timers and 30 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 37 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 20 volunteers: Elizabeth Rachel TOOMBS • Elizabeth CHANTLER • Joanna CASE • Martyn JONES • A J HALFORD • Lisa BROAD • Shaun LIGHTFOOT • Mark LIGHTFOOT • Andy MARTELL • Oli WASHINGTON • Dawn APPLETON • Valerie MARTELL • Holly ASTLE • Hayley ASTLE • Serena ENTWISTLE • Stephen ENTWISTLE • Karen BRYER • Kevin BRYER • Jennifer ENTWISTLE • Rosemary WASS
