Christmas Day arrangements

Here are the arrangements for the Christmas Day parkrun.

1) This only applies to Christmas Day – all other parkruns at Delamere will be as normal.

2) We will park in the Whitefield car park on Station Road – near where the Christmas trees are sold. It’s approximately half a mile into the forest as you pass the station. The visitor centre car parks will not be open: DO NOT GO THERE.

DO NOT PARK ON THE MAIN ROAD – it is double yellow lines. It may also jeopardise parkrun in the future if there are traffic offences.

3) When entering the car park use both the IN and OUT gates. From Hatchmere use the IN (left) gate and from the station use the OUT (right) gate. Park efficiently please ie don’t leave huge gaps between cars – there should be plenty of room then. If you start a new row – make sure any aisle you leave is not overly large.

The car park can only hold so many so it will really help if you can
- car share (or “park and ride” and share from elsewhere)
- park at Barnes Bridge or on the road to it (park carefully)
- come by bike.

4) Be careful when crossing the road on foot. The start will be on the lake 200m to the left, by the turn off to Go Ape (the ~2 mile point on the normal course).

5) The route (maps will be posted near the start) - 2 km clockwise around the lake path (no marshals as normal) - turn left (marshalled) and follow the path clockwise for 500m back to the lake (all marshalled) - 2.5km anticlockwise around the lake path (no marshals) At all times KEEP TO THE LEFT OF THE PATH in order to avoid collision where there is contraflow.

If you bring your dog you must start at the back of the field. Where the course is congested, please keep your dog on a short lead and overtake so that you are between your dog and the overtakee.

You must keep your dog away from oncoming runners. Uniquely for us there may be a lead bike – which you may meet head-on if you do not KEEP LEFT

6) The run brief will be at 9:00 as normal.

7) At the finish, as usual, follow the instructions of the marshals. Hold your hand out flat to collect a finish token. When you get to the scanners, hold your barcode vertically so it can be scanned without the scanner having to take it off you (it’s quicker). Keep moving until you reach the scanners. Be patient and stay in the funnel until you have been scanned.

8) When leaving the parkrun – cross the road with care and leave the carpark slowly and carefully. Use the right gate  if you are turning right and the left gate if you are turning left.

parkrun cancelled – April 27th

Hi parkrunners,

Unfortunately Forestry England will close Delamere Forest tomorrow due to the  high winds that have been forecast, so there won't be a parkrun in the forest.- but there are plenty of others going ahead in the locality.

Please spread the word and hope to see you all next week.

Mark Flanagan (Event Director)

Sutton 6 10k Sunday 18th September 2016

We have a great local 10k coming up: West Cheshire AC's Sutton Six has chip timing, well priced entry and a friendly setting ideal for both those looking for a new PB and those looking for a bigger challenge than their 5k parkrun! Start in Guilden Sutton, Chester. Details and entries on the link above.

Free 5k at Errdig Hall, Wrexham on 17th September @ 1830

Morning folks!

On Thursday evening next week (17th) there will be a 5k at Errdig Hall in Wrexham. It is a stunning venue and attempts are underway to get a new parkrun going there!!!

The idea is to invite people to run there and try and drum up some volunteer support for going forward with the parkrun. A lot of your normal Delamere parkrun volunteers will be around, the course will be 5k (ish) and although it won't class as a parkrun I can promise you it will be challenging ( a little!) and very, very scenic! And the sun will be out......(maybe....!)

If you would like to come along and have a run on one of the few summer evenings left then please aim to be there for an 1830 start, preceded by the usual briefing! Please pass this message on and share as much as you can to try and make this happen!

Thanks in advance!

Parking amendments for parkrun on 27th June

Please note that Old Pale car park will be closed on Saturday 27th June due to on-going works.  parkrun will be on as normal and car parking will be available in the fields next to the Forestry Commission office on the left-hand of the entrance driveway, before the Visitor Centre car park exit on the right.

Please take care as always and adhere to the site speed limits!  See you Saturday!

Let’s talk T-shirts….

Unless you are brand new to parkrun or have been ‘away’ you will be aware of the fact that the parkrun Club t-shirts have been pretty hard to get hold of lately.

In brief… everyone who has qualified for a t-shirt will get one!

Hopefully most of you will have seen our founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt’s message 'Introducing free milestone t-shirts for everyone' and if not you can read that here.

So to put a bit of meat on the bones... if you qualified for your t-shirt and ordered it before the ordering system was pulled at the beginning of December you will have made it on to the definitive back-order list.

The back-order list has been passed to Tribe Sports (check them out – lovely stuff). Once those 5,000+ Club t-shirts have been made they will be sent in bulk to parkrun and redistributed to event teams to hand out as before.

Those who qualified before the cut-off point but didn’t order their t-shirt, and those who have qualified since will come under the new system. They will be able to order their t-shirts via a link on their parkrun profile. This will be sent by our friends at Wiggle directly to your door.  The process is explained in more detail in PSH's message.

If you would like to have your milestone t-shirt presented at Delamere parkrun to rapturous applause just bring it along and we will be absolutely delighted to do that for you.

The other great news to impart is that we are going to have a Volunteer Club! This is great for people who never run but come along week after week to volunteer for us. We can’t wait to see them in their volunteer t-shirts.

Did you know that you can voice your opinion on the colour and icon of the volunteer t-shirt? Here is the link to vote.

Sutton 6 10k and Children’s fun run

Ellesmere Port RC 5k Road Race in memory of Neil Lavery

It’s less than a month to the Ellesmere Port RC 5k Road Race in memory of Neil Lavery.

Wednesday 20th August 2014 - 7:15pm, Capenhurst.

Affiliated club runners: £7.00 Unattached runners: £9.00

For those looking to try a race for the first time this is a great place to start: a fast flat road course which should see you knock some time off your Delamere PB, with friendly marshals and great organization. The course record is held by Jonny Mellor who is currently up in Glasgow representing England in the 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games, so it’s also a good one for those of you at the faster end of the field!

Pie and Peas 5 mile race

Christmas Day Delamere parkrun

Thanks to popular demand and a rather unhealthy desire to dress up, the event team have decided to put an additional parkrun on at Delamere Forest on Christmas Day this year!

The planned start time is 9:30am and the route will be the usual one from Old Pale car park, weather permitting!  More details will follow but if you would like to volunteer to help out please email us on the usual address:

If anyone would like to offer to bake some mince pies or other unhealthy treats then please feel free!  The more the merrier!!!
