Run Report – Event No. 116– 20th June 2015

A slightly damp parkrun this weekend but good running conditions and a very good turn out of 276, considering there were local races on both the evening before and the day after! Thanks to all of those racers who helped out by volunteering.

First finisher was Richard McGeachie (Halton & Frodsham Harriers) who’s no stranger to the top spot. Jeanette Pope was first woman home for the first time in five runs. The best age grading of 79.71 % went to the impressive Edward Pettitt (JM11-14) of Vale Royal AC who continues to improve, this week recording achieving a new course PB of 18:39 for 4th place. Ethan Greenland’s 3rd place (West Cheshire AC) was enough for him to leapfrog to the top of the points category, and this is set to be a hotly contested honour this year.

We had a trio of entrants to the 50 club this week: Iwan Pullen (JM15-17) of Wrecsam Tri, Dillon Greenland (JM11-14) and Tim Appleton (JM40-44) of Razzer’s Runners. I can’t resist the urge to point out Iwan might have got there a month ago if he remembered his barcode more regularly!

Entries are now open for Vale Royal’s fantastic Pie & Peas 5 mile race, likely to sell out this year so don’t leave it too late! Link here for more details http://www.valeroyalathleticclub.co.uk/PiePeas5Flyer15b.pdf

Run Report – Event No. 80 – 4th October 2014

Rather a wet parkrun this weekend but it seemed that for every regular who stayed home in the dry there was a first timer or tourist to back-fill the numbers. We even had three unknown runners amongst the top 10 finishers!

We had tourists from near and far, many of whom were visiting for the Chester marathon or the duathlon at Oulton Park. Visitors included runners from Leicestershire, Devon, the New Forest, Congleton, Shrewsbury and Sale. Helen Shulver and Matthew Hough from South Yorkshire even gave us the honour of hosting their 50th parkrun!

It was great to see so many regulars out on Sunday running our local marathon. “Team Delamere” could be found making plenty of noise down at the groves on the final stretch of the marathon and metric marathon and gave support to a huge number of Delamere’s regulars! Congratulations to regular runners and core team volunteers Ray Tran and Richard Hayes, Steve Jolly and Alison Morton from the top of our male and female points tables, and others including Sharon Tran, Ellie Robinson, Geoff Collins, Wullie McGarrell and a large showing from Helsby in the metric marathon, amongst others; apologies to anyone I’ve missed. We look forward to seeing lots of the Chester Marathon long sleeve t-shirts on our start line this autumn!

Thanks to everyone who brought cakes to celebrate 10 years of parkrunning. For anyone who’s missing a cake tin, we’ll be bringing some back next week!

For the women, Megan Hough of Vale Royal was back, with parkrun debutante Anest Müller of West Cheshire behind her and Kirsty Seddon of Chester Tri in third.

Thanks as always to the volunteers, who this week included the Cute Fruit team who are bringing back the classic Farndon 10k next month http://www.cutefruitevents.com/ and Jake and Ray Tran as a father-son barcode scanning team. Thanks also to Ray and Rich Hayes for their work processing the results which was more challenging than usual! You may also have noticed a delay in receiving your results which was due to a national server issue. Text messages were sent out as soon as the results were completed before 14:00, with e-mails sent out by 16:30 and the website updated later that evening. This proves the benefit of signing up for results updates by a free text, so make sure you add this to your profile if you haven’t already!

Good luck to everyone running the Sutton 6 10k in Chester and the English Half Marathon in Warrington today! Run Report – Event No. 71 – 2nd August 2014

Another wet parkrun though not as bad as some we’ve experienced recently, with fairly good conditions underfoot in the forest.

Colin Bishop of Helsby RC was first finisher for the fifth week in a row, which is by far the longest streak we’ve had. Elizabeth Renondeau of Tattenhall Runners returned for her second parkrun and took the top spot once again for the women.

Big congratulations to regular runner and volunteer Ray Tran who ran his 100th parkrun this weekend! Ray, of Chester Triathlon Club, did his first run at Heaton Park in 2010 and has been a keen parkrunner and volunteer since then. His regular parkrun has changed as new events have gradually opened closer to home and he’s done a bit of parkrun tourism too. The stats are: 41 runs at Delamere, 28 at Pennington Flash, 11 at Heaton, 9 at Congleton, 5 at Princes Park, 3 at Norwich, and one each at Warrington, Gorleston Cliffs and Alice Holt. Well done from all of us on this fantastic achievement.

We had a lot of parkrun tourists visiting this weekend. Firstly a special mention for Chorlton Runners who came out in force: 20 runners, most of them regular parkrunners but all new to Delamere. We also had visitors from Newcastle, Durham, Hull, Cardiff, and Chelmsford.

Don’t forget we have a few local races coming up: Vale Royal AC’s Pie & Peas 5 mile this Wednesday; Ellesmere Port RC’s 5k In memory of Neil Lavery (Capenhurst) on 20th August, and West Cheshire AC’s Sutton 6 10k on 21st September. Check their websites for entry information if you fancy giving any of them a go.
