Run Director Karen FARRY

Well done to all 68 junior athletes who took part today. Special mention to Eoghan Donnelly, Jake Roddy, Mya Lynch, Rose McLaughlin, Clara McSorely, Kate Hribar and Rory Curtis who all achieved personal bests. Great running!

We were delighted to welcome Olly Breslin, Ciaran Cullen, James Cullen, Isla Lynch, Eva Hutchinson, Sophia Hutchinson, Rose Cassidy and Daniel Watson Derry City juniors for the very first time. Regular attendee Jamie Mulgrew also posted his first official parkrun time since turning 4. We hope you all enjoyed your run with us and that you come back again soon. We really love seeing new faces every week, and seeing our event grow. Make sure to spread the word to all your friends. We welcome all abilities and the most important goal is to have fun.

Congratulations to Jessica Mulgrew who was awarded her full marathon wristband this morning. That’s 42km of running in total, or 21 junior parkruns. Great achievement Jessica

Congratulations also to Finnbar Colhoun who was awarded his half marathon wristband today. Keep up the great running Finnbar!

Can all parents please download the virtual volunteer app to your phone so we can show you how to use it Conal MCCONVILLE & Philip MCAVOY are doing the timing and scanning roles supported by other regular volunteers this weekend.

Thanks to the volunteers

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Deirdre BATESON, Neil CALLAN, Kieran COYLE, Michaela DOHERTY, Paul FARRY, Karen FARRY, Shane GALLAGHER, Annemarie KELLY, Philip MCAVOY, Mary MCCARROLL, Conal MCCONVILLE, Conal MEENAN, Karen WALSH

For 2020 we are looking for volunteers to join our core team and gain the opportunity to get trained up doing different roles during our event. We really need some regular help so our event can continue to grow throughout 2020. In 5 week’s time, it will be our birthday and 100th junior parkrun event and we are hoping to break the record of 101 people attending a single event.

Junior parkrun is very different from the adult Saturday event and there are some obvious health and safety issues; for example, marshals should be 200 meters from each other and be in sight of each other. For 2020 we would like to see more marshals along our route so any parents that aren’t running with their child please step forward and help out. Email us and let us know if you can help out derrycity-juniors@parkrun.com This also adds a great experience for the kids and also means parents don’t necessarily have to run with their kids. It is not mandatory for a parent/guardian to participate in junior parkruns, but children under the age of 11 must be accompanied to/from the event by a responsible adult, and the responsible adult must remain in attendance for the duration of the event.

A few housekeeping reminders for2020 as per junior parkrun code:

Could I remind all our lovely parkrun families that junior parkrun is a running, jogging and walking event. The use of children’s scooters, balance bikes, trikes or cycles is prohibited. Adults with buggies should position themselves appropriately at the top of the hill at the back of the starting pack for the safety and enjoyment of all.

Dogs or other pets are not permitted at Derry city junior parkrun.

Please see attached image of the full junior parkrun code.

Lastly, if your child is due a wristband please email us here derrycity-juniors@parkrun.com before the event starts so we know they are attending. Here you can check and see if your child is due a milestone wristband https://www.parkrun.org.uk/results/juniorclubs/?eventname=derrycity-juniors
