Didcot parkrun #186 - 3rd November 2018

Who doesn’t love parkrunday and Didcot parkrun Event 186 did not disappoint, there were running and volunteering milestones, first time runners and tourists galore.
This week 243 people ran, jogged and walked the course, 15 were first timers of whom 8 were taking part in their first ever parkrun and 44 recorded new Personal Bests too. We saw an incredible 1,215 km (753 miles) covered in this one event alone and this takes us to 145,290km (6,380 miles) since Didcot parkrun launched in February 2015.
This week’s milestones are:
10 parkruns (juniors) • Arsham Abyaneh • Daniel Brenchley • Reggie Duckham
100 parkruns • Alison Gordon • Lewis Cousins 100 volunteers •
100 Volunteers – Helen Brind
There seems to now be a regular turnover of milestone achievements at Didcot parkrun and we can’t wait to see more milestone t-shirts being worn at the event but a big thank you must go to one of our Run Directors, Helen Brind as reaching 100 volunteers is the equivalent of giving up two years of Saturday mornings!!
This was a special occasion for myself in particular as I had finally reached the 100 milestone parkruns but it was even better to share the occasion with some other fab milestone parkrunners. For this event I decided to Tail Walk and take in parkrun from another perspective, I also thought I could get away without any fuss until my lovely wife decided to dress me in Fancy Dress topped off with my very own tail!!
All the volunteer roles are great fun but Tail Walking was a wonderful experience as I got to see all the runners at least twice, cheering runners on and chatting to the parkrunners as they passed by. I spent most of the event trying to keep up with Charlie and Rebecca Warrington while stopping to take photos with every volunteer along the way.
Whilst walking the course you get to see the faster runners as they glide around the course, those pushing to improve on last weekends time, families running together and parkrunners embarking on a run walk strategy where age, shape and size are not barriers. We are blessed with a fantastic parkrun family and there is a great community feel good factor at the event.
The event was made possible by 19 volunteers:
Helen BRIND • Simon HEWERDINE • Sue HENDERSON • Michael SUGGATE • Lewis COUSINS • Noel FRANCIS • Carla HOWES • John TALBOT • Tracey TALBOT • Jasmine TALBOT • Daniel BLOUNT • Conor BYRNE • Christopher MOFFATT • Jonathan BOUCARD • Simon JENNINGS • Stuart TURNER • Karen SPACKMAN • Fo KRABBEN • Pete WEBSTER
If you have never volunteered before then why not come and give it a go by joining our volunteer one weekend. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org where we would love to add you to the roster, you will be given training on the morning by the Run Director and have a variety of volunteer roles available.
Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Didcot parkrun Results Page.
We hope to see you all again at Didcot parkrun #187 this weekend and please let the Run Director know if it's your First Time parkrun, a milestone event or if you're taking in our event with some parkrun tourism.
