Druridge Bay parkrun is cancelled on 2020-11-28 – COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Taylor and Page 1st Finishers

A brilliant 129 runners took part in the 60th Druridge Bay parkrun on Saturday 26th September. This is a great figure, considering it coincided with the 1st of the North East Harrier League cross country fixtures, therefore a good number of our regular club runners would have been elsewhere! Dave HINDMARSH was Run Director and did his usual great job with the marshals. The volunteer roster is looking great for the next few weeks, though if any of our regular runners would like to help out we have slots available in November! Contact us by email here druridgebayoffice@parkrun.com.

1st finisher was the 3rd fastest male in our events history, Morpeth Harrier karl TAYLOR. Karl was just outside his course personal best, finishing in a brilliant 16.20. His WAVA score was 78.98%, comfortably the highest by a male today. 3 minutes behind Karl was 2nd finisher Colin ARCHER, another Morpeth runner, in a pb of 19.16. He was just under a minute ahead of Newcastle and Tyneside Orienteers runner Willard WRIGHT. Personal bests were achieved by Craig MUTER, Paul WILLIS, Andrew WILDE and Andrew STEWART amongst many others!

For the ladies 1st across the line was Unattached runner Carole PAGE. Carole, running in the female 55-59 age group, was well over a minute ahead of the 2nd female in 22.34. This gave Carole the best WAVA score of the day, an excellent 79.17%. 2nd finisher was youngster Catherine WOODS in 23.47, whilst Sandra WATSON was 3rd home in a 1 second pb of 24.04! Amongst many gaining personal bests were Karen PAYNTER, Kelly HINDLE, Jenny BULLOCK and Nell GAIR!

Many congratulations to 2 of our regular runners who have just burst through the 50 Druridge Bay parkrun barrier, Karl BAXTER and Paula CROMAR!!! These guys can claim their 50 parkrun t-shirts by going to this link and following the instructions https://support.parkrun.com/hc/en-us/articles/200038792. No doubt many more will be gaining their half century of runs soon. Who will be first to 100???

See you on Saturday.

Its Snowball Again!!!!

In stark contrast to the previous weeks grim weather it was a beautiful morning down at Ladyburn Lake for the 59th Druridge Bay parkrun on Saturday 19th September. Many thanks to Run Director Mark DOCTOR and to the superb marshals for their great support! Another above average 128 runners took part in this weeks event, which sees the average go above 115!

1st finisher for an amazing 10th time was Morpeth Harrier Mark SNOWBALL. Mark is a credit to his club and to our parkrun in general. Not only has he improved his times since his first event back in August 2014, but he's always there when we're a bit short of marshals. When an appeal goes out Mark is one of the first to give up his run to offer his services. What a guy! Cruising round in 17.30 Mark was well over a minute ahead of Alnwick Harrier Terry FOUNTAIN. Terrys time of 18.37 was a course pb and was also enough to give him a WAVA score of 77.98%, the highest of the day. 3rd finisher was another Alnwick runner Dominic HARRIS, also in a massive course pb of 19.09. On a morning for fast times due to the friendly conditions other personal bests were achieved by Shane FORSYTH, John CUTHBERT, Tim SHEPHERD and David FALKOUS!

For the women 1st finisher, also in a personal best at the event, was Alnwick Harrier Justine NORMAN. Justine clocked 23.17 to finish well over a minute ahead of 2nd finisher Ali LIDDLE. Ali, an unattached runner, finished 2 seconds ahead of Laura MILLER in 24.37. Best WAVA by a female came from Claire DEACON of Solent Running Sisters, 71.39%. Course bests were achieved by Helen SHEPHERD, Becky DUNPHY and Danielle FORSYTH!

Away from the parkrun many congratulations to Run Director Ian HARDING who travelled to New York to take part in a half marathon in Brooklyn. Not only did he take part but he won it!

See you next week.

Ashington Hirst Running Club Takeover!

Many many thanks to members of the newest running club in the north east, Ashington Hirst RC, for their takeover day on Saturday 12th September. Despite wet and murky conditions members of the club took on the majority of the marshal roles and did a fantastic job keeping up the spirits of the 102 soggy runners! Many thanks to Run Director Andy GRIEVES who was fulfilling this role for the second consecutive week. Numbers were down slightly on previous weeks but this was no doubt due to the Great North Run the following day. 102 is still an amazing number and well up on last years Great North Run weekend!

1st finisher was Unattached runner Chris DAVIDSON. Chris, having his 6th run at Druridge Bay, ran a course pb of 19.19 and was well ahead of another Unattached runner Jamie WILSON who clocked 19.54. Paul HARRISON of Low Fell RC was 3rd home in 20.07. Best male WAVA score of the day was Neil McANANY's 73.03%. Personal bests on the course were achieved by Robert BADDELEY, Andrew GIBSON and Jack ROBERTS.

For the women 1st to complete was Blyth RC's Leanne HERRON in 21.55. This is now the 4th occasion that Leanne has been 1st female finisher at Druridge Bay! Next to finish the 5k was Carole PAGE in 22.38. Carole's time saw her score easily the highest WAVA of the weekend, 78.94%. 3rd finisher was Elswick Harrier Marie DROZDOWICZ in 23.02. Course personal bests were achieved by, amongst others, Kymala THORNTON, Eileen COOPER and Nell GAIR.

Well done to all the runners and thanks once again to Ashington Hirst RC for all their help today.

See you next week.

Green and Corne 1st Finishers!

122 runners took part in the 57th Druridge Bay parkrun on Saturday 5th September, another above average turnout no doubt helped by decent weather! Many thanks to our superb marshals who were led by Run Director Andy GRIEVES. It was great to see the Managing Director of parkrun UK Tom WILLIAMS turn up with his family. He spoke with Andy afterwards and was very impressed with the course, the surroundings and the friendly nature of our event. Some endorsement!

1st finisher for the 4th time in our history was Morpeth Harriers youngster Ryan GREEN. Ryan finished the 2 lap 5k in a course personal best of 17.01, to finish almost 90 seconds ahead of his closest rival. Ryans time was also a new male 15-17 age category course record. Parkrun tourist Matt HUNTER of Suffolk based Hadleigh Hares AC was next home in 18.26, whilst Morpeths Tim MILEY was 3rd finisher in 19.01, just outside his pb. The best WAVA score of the day was by Alnwick Harriers 7th placed runner Peter GREY, whose 19.25 gave him an 80.52% score. Personal best times were achieved by a number of regulars including Terry FOUNTAIN, Dominic HARRIS, Ross PRINGLE, Jack ROBERTS and William FORTUNE!

1st female finisher was parkrun tourist Hannah CORNE of Leeds based Valley Striders RC. Hannahs splendid 19.44 saw her finish the 5k in 8th place and saw her achieve a new female 30-34 course record! Well worth the journey then! It was a good day for Leeds based female runners as Hyde Park Harrier Helen WILLIAMS was next home in her 181st parkrun, whilst Run Director Jackie PROUSE of Alnwick Harriers was 3rd finisher. Amongst the regulars gaining course pbs were Jenny BOLAM, regular helper and recent Sweatshop prize winner Gemma HARMON, Kymala THORNTON and Kirstie GROOM! Well done to everyone!

Next week we welcome members of the newest running club in the north east, Ashington Hirst RC, as their members are doing a "takeover" of the majority of the marshal roles. We look forward to seeing them!

Till next week, bye!
