Dukeries Junior Parkrun #16 – 12th January 2020

A 90% chance of rainbows was predicted for the start of #16 Dukeries Junior Parkrun, but as the 24 young runners and families arrived, the clouds parted and the sun came out for near perfect conditions to achieve some PBs. We welcomed 9 first timers from as far as Nottingham to our 2k course.

Emily, one of our resident warmer-uppers did a great job of getting everyone motivated for the start.

Chloe L was our first finisher today with an impressive new female course time of 08:06 with Logan H coming in close to his PB with a time of 08:13.

A massive well done to all of our runners this morning, from those like Henry, Joshua, Ava F, Nellie, Noah and Abbey who all achieved new PBs, to all the others like Cameron and Ava D, who we’re really proud of for making it around the course... You guys smashed it today!

Thanks to all of the parents and volunteers once again for supporting and cheering the junior Parkrunners to the finish line. It was great to have some new parents offer to join our core volunteer team for future events as we simply couldn’t do it without you. If you have any pictures of the event, please share them on our Facebook page or tag us @dukeriesjuniorparkrun.

Dukeries Junior Parkrun is back at 9.00am on Sunday 19th January. The first timers briefing and warm up takes place at 8.55am. We hope that you will join us again. If you would like to join our volunteer team, please send us an email and we will add you to our volunteer roster. We are a friendly bunch and we meet at the Dukeries Leisure Centre straight after the event for a drink and a chat. Everyone is welcome. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Run Director – Dukeries Junior Parkrun

Event #1 29/09/2019 Inaugural

What an amazing morning it was!
We had  30 junior runners and their parents arrive at Dukeries track to take part in the inaugural Dukeries junior parkrun, dispite the rain. We are incredibly proud of all the children who took part this morning. It was everything parkrun is supposed to be: fun, friendly and open to everyone.

We were very lucky to be joined by the Mayor, who officially set of the runners in style. Our high-viz heroes were out on the course, making sure everyone is safe, and doesn't lose their way or their smile. Junior parkrun requires a much higher level or marshalling than 'normal' parkrun, as every child on the course has to be visible at all times by a marshal to ensure safety. Volunteering is fun, rewarding and if you'd like to get involved please get in touch with us. If your child is confident to run alone, we can give you a role around the finish area so you are able to look after your child as soon as they finish.

A huge shout out to all those that have been involved with the set up of Dukeries-junior parkrun, without them this just wouldn't be happening.
