25th May 2019
This week's run report was kindly written by Claudia Davies.
Today I completed my 78th parkrun and 10th at Durham. I joined the Durham parkrun community in October 2018 along with starting university. I was thankful to wake up this morning to find that it was dry and sunny unlike last weeks run. As I got ready I had a dilemma- should I wear my road or trail trainers? It is a problem that I have every week with only half of the course being on grass. This week I decided to go with my road trainers.
I left my accommodation at 8:30 giving myself time to jog down and warm up. As I headed down I began to see the familiar faces of other regular runners. After having 2 weeks of exams I was particularly looking forward to today’s run as a chance to destress.
There are many things that I love about parkrun; the friendly atmosphere, the dedication of the volunteers and in particular the effort to include everyone. As a deaf person I struggle to hear the announcements made at the beginning of every run and so I was extremely grateful to see that there was a sign language supporter. It is little things like this that really makes parkrun an outstanding experience.
I am already looking forward to next Saturday as parkrun is the highlight of my week.
This week 499 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 65 were first timers and 102 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 39 different clubs took part.
