About us

Durham City junior parkrun is a FREE 2km event for junior runners of all standards, which takes place every Sunday at 9:00am in Durham Racecourse, Access via Durham Amateur Rowing Club, City Boathouse, Green Lane, Durham, DH1 3JU. See our home page for more details.

The 2k timed run can be whatever you want it to be, whether for fun or as part of a training plan.

It offers an opportunity for all the family to get involved and come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park. We want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE!

Taking part is easy – just register in advance before your first ever parkrun. Your individual barcode can then be used for this weekly 2k run, or on any of the weekly 5k parkruns around the country.

The junior parkrun is a great way to get involved and introduce yourselves to a sport without any of the normal outside pressures. A great way to improve health, confidence and to enjoy a great location. It can also be part of getting fit for sport for your school or to train for a specific target such as the Mini-Marathon trials, or for a full 5k parkrun distance. In short, you are welcome to come along and have fun.


  • County Durham Sport: County Durham Sport is one of 43 County Sport Partnerships nationally, funded by Sport England and other local partners. County Durham Sport was established in 1996 as the first County Sports Partnerships in the country. County Durham Sport works with various partners to help improve and get more local people to take part in sport and physical activity. County Durham Sport has helped Durham Racecourse junior parkrun to secure the funding required to set up this event as well as worked closely with the core team to encourage more young people to get involved, both as runners and young volunteers.

  • Durham Amateur Rowing Club: Founded in 1860, Durham Amateur Rowing Club is a thriving rowing club with juniors, mens, womens and veteran (masters) sections competing at a regional, national and international level. In addition, the club supports British Rowing’s Explore Rowing (Learn to Row) programme and has a substantial recreational rowing section. The clubhouse boasts conferencing, function and training facilities including a fully licenced bar and educational centre.

  • Team Durham: Team Durham is the home of sport at Durham University. Sport at Durham focuses on the three core strands of performance and leadership, participation and community sport development. Team Durham offer a wide range of activities to get involved in, working with different groups of people across a wide range of activities.

  • Durham County Council: Durham County Council have been a great supporter of parkruns across the county and have facilitated improvements to footpaths which has allowed Durham Racecourse junior parkrun to take place.

    Your donation will be wisely spent by the event team (as custodians of the local purse) on the upkeep of our parkrun.

    For donations prior to 1 February 2017, 85% was allocated to the event and the remaining 15% to the New Event Fund.

    We are unable to accept donations to events that are made via third party employer contribution schemes or any form of cashback schemes.

    We no longer accept cheques for event donations. The only way for individuals to contribute to an event pot is by donating directly through the PayPal link on this page.

    parkrun is completely open about all donations. All donations to this event (and withdrawals that the event teams makes) will be published below. You can also view all donations in this country here.
