As one of our landowners, Durham University, has closed is facilities on the Racecourse due to Covid-19, unfortunately we are now cancelled until further notice.

When restrictions are lifted we will let you know. Stay safe and be kind. We hope to see you all again soon.

parkrun #172 15.03.2020

40 fantastic runners joined us today on a blustery but sunny junior parkrun morning.

Johnny J led the field home followed by Sam B and Isabelle M.  There were an amazing 12 new PBs recorded this morning and 5 first timers joined us too.  Molly S also ran her 50th junior parkrun!

Please keep checking via parkrun HQ on the status of our (and other) parkrun events in light of the current and ongoing situation with covid-19 - see the link at the end of this or on the top of each page on the parkrun website.

Hopefully see you all soon,

Megan, Clare & the core team

Run #167 – 26 January 2020

Firstly a huge thanks to everyone who responded to my urgent call for volunteers on Saturday afternoon. I never like having to put out such a plea but until I did that, we only had 9 volunteers in the roster and we must have a minimum of 18 to run our event each week. It would really help the whole event team if you could let us know a few days in advance if you can help - it is not fair to expect the Run Director to sit at home on a Saturday night waiting and hoping that someone might get in touch to fill the roster positions. In order for the run to be safe for all the children, all the marshal and the tail walker positions must be filled (ahead of timing and scanning) otherwise we cannot hold the run. Please do get in touch if you can help over the next few months (winter is always the hardest to recruit volunteers!).

Ok, now that my little rant is over, well done to all 51 runners at today's event. We welcomed 4 first timers and 12 children got new PBs today. Half Marathon wristbands were awarded to Sophie D and Emily W and a Marathon wristband awarded to Hannah L.

Noah W, James O and Thomas P led the runners in as first, second and third finishers, and Anna D, Grace W and Olivia B were the first three girl finishers. Well done all.

A huge huge thanks to all 22 volunteers, hope to see you all again soon!

Run #158 – 17 November 2019

Wow!  I hadn't realised that it had been so long since we published a run report so my apologies for that.

A lot has happened over the summer and into Autumn.  We have a permanent construction feature at the top of our course (installation of a new sewer main for Durham city, expected to take around 13 months to complete). So hopefully in 2021 we will get our "normal" course back!

My wonderful co-Event Director, Jenny Search, who helped me set up Durham City junior parkrun in 2016 with our core team (Vics, Andrew, Andrew, Kate and Doug) has stepped down as co-Event Director (but thankfully not leaving us completely).  Clare Higgins has stepped up from one of our core team members and Run Directors to co-Event Direct with me.  So again huge thanks to her for that.

Our core team of volunteers has continued to grow and thankfully we are never short of help every Sunday (although occasionally people leave it a little late to volunteer meaning the Run Director is often worrying on a Saturday night!).  As I said at this morning's run brief, please do get in touch if you can help as we need 20 volunteers a week for the run to go ahead.

On to today's run:  a small but perfectly formed 23 runners joined us today and we managed to keep the rain at bay!  Another first finish for William J, followed in by William R and Thomas P.  For the girls, Isla L was first girl, in 7th overall, followed in by Holly B and Grace W.  Holly ran a new PB, as did William B.  We had milestone wristbands awarded to Felicity M (half marathon) and siblings William, Charlie and Abigail B (marathon).

Hope to see you all soon!

Durham City junior parkrun #136 – 02/06/19

Today threatened rain, and even built up the courage once or twice, but actually turned out to be a very warm run. All fifty eight of our fantastic runners were regulars and it is lovely to see so many locals embracing Junior parkrun.

Congratulations to William Jardine who finished first and very nearly set themselves a new PB in the process and congratulations to Isla, Beau, Adam, Annie, Oliver, William, Brooke and Holly who all achieved new PBs! Thank you to all of our amazing High Viz Heroes that made this possible. Please drop us a line if you would like to join our fantastic team.

Finish token number 32 has disappeared! If anyone finds it in their pocket, please let us know so that we can reunite it with tokens 31 and 33 who I understand are quite besides themselves at the moment. (UPDATE: 32 is safe and sound and enjoying a two week holiday.)

Finally, please remember that Durham City junior parkrun is cancelled next week due to the regatta. If you would like a spot of tourism, the closest junior parkrun is Sedgefield parkrun, situated in Hardwick Park. See you in two weeks!

James Parker
