EAST BRIGHTON parkrun REPORT No. 03, December 22nd, 2018

aEB – We Sleighed it!!!

It’s a bit of a parkrun mantra that it’s not about the time you take to get round the route, it’s about the fact that you are there at all.  And for that reason we generally pop the stats at the end of the report for you to read if you want to – we’re just happy you came along.  But this week, our third ever EB parkrun, the numbers read like a twinkly, little Christmas gift to us.  Take a moment to consider this …

This week 112 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 82 were first timers and 16 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 21 different clubs took part.

Just three weeks ago a small team scurried around the park at 8.30am in hi-vis jackets; a tiny battalion of parkrun minions, wondering if anyone would turn up. We are genuinely humbled by your support and enthusiasm for this – the newest parkrun in town.

It’s a bumpy off-road course taking in a few gradients, rabbit holes, tree roots and the already infamous Slippery Slope along the way. And before this week it hadn't been tested with child buggies!  So it is with a deep sigh of relief that we can report – no low flying children at this week’s run.  Their parent buggy-drivers whizzed round the three laps as nimbly as Dancer, Prancer and Vixen navigating the starlight sky on Christmas Eve. With equally precious and well wrapped cargo.

Some visitors announced themselves ahead of time. We were able to welcome the RunPals and the Vegan runners by name.  The RunPals have written their very own run report which you can find on our FB page, it’s a really good, first-hand write up of the course.  And the Vegan Runners were so chuffed that we made vegan mince pies a picture of then hit the national club page.   If you are coming along with your club, do hop onto our FB page and let us know. It’s lovely to be able to welcome you.

Also by the magic of social media we knew we’d have a turkey running the course with us. We were also joined by Santas of all kinds and elves and pudding-hatted runners.  You were all absolute crackers.

Which just leaves me to sign off with a new EB tradition - the Christmas running joke.

Q: What does Santa say when he runs the EB parkrun backwards?

A: Oh! Oh! Oh!

*groans*

Merry Christmas EB parkrunners. See you on December 29th maybe?

If you are interested in being a volunteer for EB parkrun please contact eastbrighonhelpers@parkrun.com – we’re trying to establish a rota that allows all our volunteers to run the course regularly too (if they want to).  Volunteering occasionally is a great way to give back and to keep this new run going.
