EAST BRIGHTON parkrun REPORT #45, October 19th, 2019

Under a mixed sky, ranging from slate grey to azure blue this morning’s East Brighton parkrun took place. But hang on what’s this? We had rain! We’ve had 45 parkruns in our lovely terraced park to the east of Brighton and this is only the third time we have ever had rain while the run is taking place.

Did it deter any of the volunteers or participants? Not a bit of it. The ground underfoot was soft and spongy. Under the canopy of trees we call The Junction it was a little slippery, but no injuries or trainers that were too congealed.

At the finish there were myriad smiles as the line was crossed - runners with dogs, lots of children running with adults, the Runpals and very supportive quicker runners who cheered on the later finishers.  The true spirit of parkrun is alive and well BN2.

At the end the volunteers were all a bit damp, but still very enthusiastic about being able to give all the participants a position and a time from 20 minutes to 61 minutes. This week 79 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 14 were first timers and 8 recorded new personal bests. Representatives of 13 different clubs took part.

We always love having new volunteers, and make sure they are welcome and feel valued. Why not give it a go? Without the volunteers parkrun would not happen each week, and many of the regular volunteers would like to run occasionally.

This week’s volunteers were: Terry James AVEY • Lucy MITCHELL • Rachel COWAN • Vincent PELLING • Nancy PLATTS • Catherine CONSIDINE • Dave BAILEY • Louise TERO • Paul PEARSON • Darren SNOW MBE • Michelle PEARSON • Lesley MORRILL • Yvette KNAPMAN • Fran SKEELES • Therese SIVERNS
