Our First Birthday event!!!

We can scarcely believe it has been a whole year since our little band of core team members set up a junior parkrun course for the very first time over at Eltham park south, nervously wondering whether anyone would turn up or whether the rain would hold off for another half an hour until the run was over.

But the rain did hold off (nearly every Sunday for an entire year!) and our junior runners did turn up. And Eltham junior parkrun was born.

That was February 28th 2016, and this Sunday we celebrated our first year of Eltham juniors with 70 runners, walkers and joggers crossing the finish funnel, and 26 volunteers cheering them on!

It has been a fantastic first year. We put on 48 events, welcomed 343 different junior parkrunners to Eltham park south, have seen 426 personal bests being set, helped 5 Duke of Edinburgh participants achieve their bronze volunteer award, and had 93 different volunteers helping us make it all happen!

A BIG Thank You to each and everyone of you that has been a part of our inaugural year; to all of our juniors and their adults that get up early on a Sunday morning to come to us for a run, and to all of our volunteers that sacrifice their weekend lie ins to get involved. We appreciate it. And today in particular, thank you to everyone that came along and donated their time - and cakes! - to help us celebrate :)

We can't wait to see what our next year brings!!!

It’s nearly our 1st birthday!! 11 days to go…

Can you believe it has been almost an entire year since Eltham junior parkrun first set little feet running at Eltham park south?? We can't! The year has been jam-packed with fun and what better way to celebrate than with a first birthday party!

Sunday 26th February 2017 marks one year of Eltham juniors and we shall be holding a birthday party for all of our juniors, spectators and of course volunteers straight after the event. Come along and join in, bring a friend and stay for some cake and fun afterwards!

If you would like to get involved with setting up for the party, or if you can supply some food or drink, or decorations , please do get in touch with us at Eltham-juniorshelpers@parkrun.com. And if you know of any photographers that may be able to come and take a few snaps of our special occasion, please let us know! :D

Keep your eyes peeled on our social media sites, Facebook or Twitter, for up to date party information over the next week. Let the countdown commence...!!!

Halloween Event – Sunday 30th October

Our Halloween event will be held on Sunday 30th October.
Runners, adults, volunteers... come dressed in your best fancy dress outfit and join in the fun!

In recognition of the clocks going back early that Sunday morning we will be running the course in the reverse direction! Make sure you hi-five our Monstrous Marshals, and look out for some spoooooky skeletons hanging around along the way!

We will have some tasty treats so stick around after your run and feel free to bring along your own treats (or tricks!) to share! Its a great way to get to know your fellow junior parkrunners and the wonderful volunteer team who put on the event each week.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Christmas and New Year

Eltham junior parkrun will be closed for 2 weeks over the Christmas holiday.

Our last event of 2016 will be on 18th December and will be a Christmas themed event! Look out for more info nearer the time.

Eltham juniors will return on Sunday 8th January 2017.

Eltham juniors event #24

It was a bit of a blustery morning at the park today but that didn't stop our 34 junior runners (and many of their accompanying adults!) battle the breeze and fly through the finish funnel, including 4 first timers and 9 PB's. Well done to you all!

First for our boys today was Charlie Gray kicking things off with a new PB of 8 minutes and 4 seconds (8:04), followed by an UNKNOWN RUNNER (Don't Forget Your Barcode, guys!) and third through the funnel was James McMIllan in 8:48.

Our girls saw Sofia-Plum Maher first (4th overall) in 8:53, not only smashing her own PB but setting a new female course record in the process! She was followed by Ellie Lewis (7th overall) in 10:21 and Milly Cameron (15th overall) in 11:36.

Our other PB champs were: Taite McQueen (10th/10:33), Aimee Norman (16th/11:46), Phoebe Wright (18th/12:12), Xander Cameron (19th/12:18), Isabella Deighton Smith (24th/13:45), Sofia Clarke (27th/14:47) and Gabriella Deighton Smith (34th/23:02).

Well done everyone, and remember a full list of today's (and previous) results can be found under the Latest Results tab. :D

The team of volunteers that made it all possible were: Abigail Tremain, Amy Bird, Amy Tremain, Clare Cameron, Emma Osborn, Eva-Maria Bonin, Helen Norman, John Hannan, Luke Cameron, Marion Osborn, Milly Cameron, Ross Tremain, Sarah Carroll, Sheralee Hopgood, Tim Peters, William Matthews and Xander Cameron. Thank you folks!

If you are interested in volunteering at Eltham juniors, we are always on the look out for hi-vis heroes. Not only is it heaps of fun (way too much really for a Sunday morning! ;) ), it's also vital that we have enough marshals to ensure the children can be seen around the entire course. To reserve your hi-vis vest and foam hand just send us an email to eltham-juniorshelpers@parkrun.com or head on over to the Volunteers tab for more info.

Lastly, we welcomed 2 more very special members into the marathon club this morning! Congratulations to Toby and Ava who have both completed a whooping 21 junior parkruns, that 42 kilometres! Wear those wristbands with pride! To find out more about the milestone wristbands - and why it is so important to remember your printed barcode each week - check out HQ's newsletter here.

And so another parkrun Sunday comes to an end. We hope you all had fun and look forward to seeing lots of bright and smiling faces again next weekend!

Your Eltham junior parkrun team.
