Event #290

This week 374 people kicked off their New Year by coming to Graves to run, jog, or walk out 5k course. That’s a new all time attendance record for Graves!

A whopping 78 first timers joined us for the first of a possible New Year Double of which 2 were taking part in their first ever parkrun, what a great way to kick off 2018, welcome to…

Green was in charge of proceedings today and welcomed us with a novel approach to the briefing…

“So this is parkrun
And what have you done?
Another year over
And a new one just begun

And so this is parkrun
I hope you all have parkfun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry parkrun
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
With PBs a plenty

And so this is parkrun
For walkers, for runners, for buggies and dogs too
And especially for everyone

So this is parkrun

X”

As always the re was a big hand for this week’s volunteers

Angela JACKSON, Ann BREWSTER, Catherine NEEDHAM, Charlie LAST, Chris ELLIS, Everything's Run GREEN, Jennie WOOD, Jo ECCLES, Magdalena BOO, Martin DOWNHAM, Neil SCHOFIELD, Pippa WOOD, Robert ATKIN, Robert NICOL, Rosemary FERRILL, Rowena YATES, Sam ALLIN, Sam NEEDHAM, Sam WOOD, Sarah UTTLEY, Stephen GILMER, Sylvia ELLIS, Tony ELLIS

A special mention to Magda for managing to distribute finish tokens with no support, pretty impressive stuff in those temperatures! Also to Arif Ali who, although not an official volunteer, did give me a lift to Poolsbrook so I could do the double, see Run Stats for how many others did the same.

If your New Year’s Resolution is to help out with Parkrun, volunteer or maybe if you haven’t settled on one yet, why not think about volunteering at Graves? There are plenty of roles, you get all the training you need and you’ll never be asked to do something you aren’t happy with! Maybe you already volunteer but you fancy trying a different role, time keeping isn’t as bad as everyone thinks!  More details later in the report for how to get involved.

There appear to be no milestones this week, although this could have been caused by the double parkrun option, so if we’ve missed giving you a shout out, let us know!

Keep your eyes peeled for parkrun bingo coming next week, where you can check off different ways of taking part in parkrun with the possibility of being rewarded with cake later in the year.

Run Statistics – for those that like their numbers

Before we get into the PB, Finishers and Age Grade stats, it’s worth mentioning that of those taking part at Graves this morning, 131 then headed to Poolsbrook and a further 50 to Hillsborough.  This was the view from the back at Poolsbrook before the start.

As usual, the event would not run anywhere near as well without the wonderful group of volunteers that Graves parkrun attracts. Please remember it’s easy to volunteer, just leave a message on the Graves parkrun Facebook page or e-mail the Graves team on: graveshelpers@parkrun.com or See our volunteer page for details on getting involved in making Graves parkrun happen.
