Everyone loves a parkrun

Graves Parkrun Event 356

Before you read this week’s run report, be aware that I completely love Parkrun, and felt like telling everybody how much I love Parkrun in this week’s run report. You have been warned. Read on…

This week there were 324 runners, joggers and walkers who got to enjoy the sunshine and lovely fresh ( if slightly chilly) air at graves.  Steve briefed us and we made our way to the start line.

This week, like every week we couldn’t have done anything without the support of our hi-vis heros, so a big thank you to:

Adrian SHIPLEY  •  Amelia SANDERSON  •  Ann-Marie MULVEY  •  Bret DUNCAN  •  Charlie LAST  •  Cherry MOGER  •  Claire TODD  •  Dan MURPHY  •  Daniel ALSTON  •  Finley LAWSON  •  Jade ROSE  •  Jo ECCLES  •  Julie DAVIS  •  Kate DYMOND  •  Kerry MARSTON-GIROUX  •  Laura ALSTON  •  Magdalena BOO  •  Mark DAVIS  •  Millie GLAVES  •  Naomi MORRISON  •  Roger WALTERS  •  Sarah HILLARY  •  Sarah SANDERSON  •  Simon NIGHTINGALE  •  Stephen GILMER  •  Stuart ROOKER  •  Will DOYLE  •  Zofia TRZECIAK

Offering to volunteer can seem quite daunting if you haven’t done it before, but please do consider it, there are a variety of roles that you can do, and the team are really friendly. Parkrun will always be as much about volunteering as running. It’s ethos is about helping people be the best they can be, to change their lives and to grow as individuals. Not a bad achievement for those of us turning up for a sociable hour on a Saturday morning. It is, after all , a run not a race!!

So then, a big welcome to the 14 of you who are completely new to parkrun.

Aidan ENGLISH, Harry MUSCROFT, Maria KIELY, Harriet TRAVIS, Emma CLARKE, Joe FOX, Rebecca MITCHELL, Nick LIVERSIDGE, Sarah HOLLINGUM, Mark FURNESS, Alice KIELY, Marcus NEWMAN, Kathleen FRY, Rebecca MARSHALL

And also to the 31 of you who had your first time at Graves today.

Everybody who knows me knows I love to run, and not surprisingly I love Parkrun. But, one of the things I love most about Parkrun is how people who don’t necessarily love to run (yet!) love Parkrun too. I think it is because it is so inclusive and supportive and has a fantastic sense of community about it, and it is utterly inclusive. This week after I’d finished I went to the final hill of doom ( it’s official title in my head anyway) to watch people finish.

This is Sam, running with Rowan. Rowan was only doing the first lap and it was his very first time, so Sam was going to do the second lap without his support….and maybe without being on coat carrying duty

In fact, standing at the mid-way point of that hill, you’d be forgiven for thinking some of us actually like running up hills at Graves, because I saw so many smiles! But again, that’s what Parkrun is about; supporting each other and having fun. I think having said that I’m more of a hill grimacer.. but as I was the one taking the photos today, I guess we will never know!
