parkrun pause #47 (6th Feb 2021)

(This contains lots of tables, photos and the like - you may want to paste the link into a grown up browser like Chrome as it'll look better)

Crikey heck that was an interesting few days of running thanks to some rather chilly and challenging weather! Well done to everyone who braved it – the Saturday crew definitely had it a little easier before the white stuff settled. And as for those who went out on Sunday – especially those who went across muddy trails and through gigantic, deep and partially frozen puddles in road trainers – well no words! (Jane in the Mud!)

Hands up who has been out in the last couple of days too? Keep ‘em up if you’ve had a bit of a bambi moment! It can be such a heart in mouth moment when you really think you’re going to go….Please stay upright and safe you lot.

I know that many of you will know John Warne and will have seen lots of his exploits through Facebook or Strava but… Great Notley’s very own John ’52 halves in a year’ Warne has not just been busy clocking up the half marathons over the past year he’s also been an integral part of ... NRG (am I the only one who thinks it’s so cool that that sounds like energy? Yes – oh, best I be quiet then!) Anyway- Notley Running Group... John has written the following all about them:

84848928_2635580226554760_8830219711355551744_n (1)

This (unofficial) group of runners was formed just over a year ago when the Great Notley parkrun was cancelled one week due to the weather and course conditions. We all met that day at The Booking Hall Cafe and did our first unofficial ‘not’ parkrun. Following on from this during the first lockdown last year we still met up via video link after we had all done our solo individual ‘not’ parkruns (the official (not)parkrun had not started but Great Notley created a virtual parkrun as early as April). (How on the ball were we?!)

During the year we ran together when possible abiding by the rules and still meet up via video link in this current lockdown. Also last year we decided that we wanted our own T shirt with our group known as NRG (or “Energy” – geddit? Well, we like it!). Sorry, MRG we are not trying to copy you.

Group members and what they got up to:

Ashman (Ashwin) - 2020/2021 continued to produce fast (not)parkrun times, brought his sanity into question by running a back garden marathon and is doing RED February
Chris 2020/2021 maintains his regular exercise by going out 3 to 4 times a week

Christine 2020/2021 continues to run but now regularly also joins PT Sharon Alexander (Witness The Fitness)
John - 2020 52 Half Marathons in 52 weeks. Parkrun award winner 2020.

Phil - 2020/2021 turned 80, was a 2020 parkrun award winner for 320 miles of walking during the summer and despite having covid in December, recently went for his first run with Steve after over a year of not running

Roger - 2020 carried on running but is also doing a lot more cycling these days

Steve - 2020 Regularly pounding the streets (or Flitch) with John and achieved Lands End to John O Groats virtual run

Stacey - 2020/2021 running streak of over 400 days and still going.
And ANOTHER parkrun award winner last year Steph - 2020 moved to Cumbria, the hills were not big enough in Essex!"

Thanks John - You're all a very busy and active bunch and lovely Steph we miss you!

Results
A whole plethora of results this week and this first lot always make me feel really lazy and wondering to myself just how many hours they have in their days! So well done to the Fantastic Four who have completed 7 5k's this week! Top, top effort!

The following submitted FIVE or more (not)parkrun results this week!

parkrunner (not)parkruns
Simon Hawkins 7
Len Marten 7
Paula Jarvis 7
Tony Perkins 7
Adam Bezdel 6
Brenda Howard 6
Richard Ancient 5

62 not parkrunners completed at least one 5k this week with four of you achieving a PB - that's pretty impressive and I'm guessing that Sunday wasn't the day you did it - but let me know if I'm wrong...

Treasure Hunt
So.. for those of you who didn’t know it’s my birthday this week and yes, I’m planning a big bash – you know sending out all the invites, preparing the sausage rolls making piles of sandwiches and stocking up on the bottles of fizz! Oh… well, maybe I’m not… another lockdown birthday it is then! But hey, that means more cake for me so not all bad then.
The treasure hunt had a bit of a ‘What do you know about Jane’ theme to it …

Treasure Hunt Bonus Items
The number (and I was a bit generous here) was either a 2 (for February) or 11 (my birthday date) or my age of 21- stop laughing you lot, it’s true – well if you add on 30+ years of experience it is! The closest was Paula M with her lovely clear number 10, but not quite close enough. The other Paula, Paula J submitted a whole bus timetable but it was just tooooo tricky to read so I’m afraid I couldn’t give her any bonus points for that.

If you were wearing my favourite colour in your selfie, then bonus points are coming your way! Paula J’s coat earnt her a bonus but unfortunately not for Martin – least said about his coat the better!

The quest for parallel lines resulted in a whole load of double yellows!! Michelle looked as though she’d discovered some freshly painted ones and Martin’s were going round the bend! Bonus points went to those folks who found parallel lines which were above the ground!

Steps – cue a whole host of comments about a ‘tragedy’ well it certainly wasn’t an issue for anyone who founds sets of steps which weren’t wooden! We also discovered that Len’s cat Jaci is pretty nimble venturing up the loft ladder and Edward (Denise and Malc’s dog) was performing his best catalogue pose mid-way up a flight! Vanessa’s dog also posed beautifully at the top of some point worthy brick steps.

Not a single one of you managed to nab the bonus points for the sign this week! We had roundabout signs, huge signs, street signs, fire hydrants, speed limits, road closed signs and danger of death signs (eek, treasure hunting is not supposed to be that extreme!) What I was hoping for was a sign with a fraction on it – well you know how much I love maths!

# Treasure Item Bonus Item Bonus Points
RDSGN7 A Road Sign ...with fractions, as I love maths ;-)  +4
SELFA3 A Selfie …wearing my fave colour, purple. +4
STEPS1 Steps ...that were not wooden. +4
PRLNS1 Parallel Lines ...that were not on the ground … and a soundtrack to my youth! +4
NUMBR1 A Number …either 2 (the month) or 11 (the day) or I would have accepted 21 +4

… almost the last bit of the treasure hunt news... Simon H has retained his hold on the top spot by the very tips of his fingers… 1 teeny, tiny point is all that's keeping him there! Will it last for much longer?? Oh, the excitement - I could crush a grape ;-)

Before I finish I must just mention the fact that one parkrunner submitted two lots of treasure hunts because she believed she'd spotted a theme in my clues - a musical clue at that. I was so impressed that I wanted to give her some extra points and prizes but I was overruled by Len, he said we'd given away our quota of speedboats...so in case you didn't see it here's Vanessa's treasure hunt musical montage and I think it's fantastic :-D
vanessa2

I’m not passing the RD reigns or treasure hunting box on to anyone else this week you have me setting the clues again! However, given that it’s going to be Valentine’s Day on Sunday I promise, from the bottom of my heart (see quick link there) that the bonuses will not be too tricky!

See you at the weekend parkies
