Dangerous Oak Tree = ROUTE CHANGE!

The lovely Park Rangers at Great Notley Country Park have got in touch and have told us that big old Oak Tree at the top of the park, behind the hill, is a lot more dangerous than they first thought.

As a result, the poor tree's cordoned off area has been made much, much bigger than before - and as a result our usual route just won't work.

Mark, your Run Director for this Saturday has decided that the only thing for it is to switch to the Winter Route for just this Saturday.

It's really important you pay special attention to Mark's runners brief on Saturday and follow the marshall's instructions.

If you're a volunteer on Saturday, pay special attention to your training and feel free to ask any questions if you're not sure of what to do or where to go.

If you've not run our "Winter Route" before it starts near the see saw in almost the same spot that our usual route finishes. You run directly towards the start of the play trail, follow the path to the left and head directly for the sandy play area. After turning left and right over the "double back bridge" you continue to follow the path around - you DO NOT cut across the "Boggy Transition" to the left.

Your parkrun, your awards – voting opens

If you hadn't realised, our first birthday event is fast approaching and Saturday 27th June will see us celebrate one whole year of parkrun in Great Notley Country Park.

Event #2 Runners

As well as the usual cake, balloons and dressing up we will also be awarding some prizes and trophies to parkrunners on the day. Some awards will be determined by points, and some will be decided on the day but there are two special awards that you can help with. The "people's volunteer award" and the "people's parkrunner award".

Voting is simple, send an e-mail to greatnotleyoffice@parkrun.com and pop "My Votes" in the subject. Then tell us who you think should get the "Volunteers Award" and who you think should get the "parkrunner's Award".

So if you think someone has shown great improvement, then you might want to vote for them as your nomination for the "People's parkrunner's Award".

Or if you think there was a tailrunner or a particular marshal that gave you loads of encouragement then you can nominate them for the "People's Volunteers Award".

The core team and I will then go through all the nominations and choose the winners.

Voting parkrunners should have their home run set to Great Notley parkrun - and please pop your name and your runners number (the one off your barcode that starts with an "A") at the bottom of the e-mail.

We've always said this is your parkrun, so it's only fitting you have a say in some of the winners!

Get voting and tell your fellow parkrunners to get voting too!

Permanent Signs Launch Event (Sat 14th March 2015)

Great Notley parkrun has been a long time in the making, there's been lots of preparation, route checking and forming what I still say is one of the greatest parkrun core teams in the Universe.

In addition to all of this we've also been busy behind the scenes making arrangements to have permanent signs installed into Great Notley Country Park.

With kind permission and support from the Essex County Council's Country Parks team and Braintree District Council, on 7th March we'll be putting in the posts and signs that will mean the park will have the parkrun course permanently sign posted - and we're pretty excited by it!

If all goes to plan the 14th March 2015 will be the first Great Notley parkrun event which will fully utilise the new permanent signs and the pile of temporary signs we need to set out each week will be dramatically reduced!

Temporary signs will become a thing of the past!

We thought it would be a great idea to celebrate this event with a bit of cake (as if we need a reason!) and you are all invited.

So pop the date in the diary and pop along to the park and see what you think of the new signs and layout.
