Christmas and New Year at Great Notley

If you’re going to be away visiting family over the Christmas period, you can still find yourself a parkrun event - and there are lots running events on both Christmas Day and New Years Day. For a full list of those events that will be running events check the parkrun Christmas compendium.

But if you’re staying at home, good news, Great Notley parkrun will be hosting both Christmas Day and New Years Day events this year along with our usual Saturday morning events, and don’t forget that the junior events will be running and usual on the Sundays too!

Monday 25th Dec - Christmas Day parkrun, a very special time indeed. This event may run with minimal signage so if you’re visiting you may want to buddy up with one of our regular locals. This will be on our usual Winter Route.

The Lily’s Cafe will opening especially for the parkrunners between 8am and 11.30am. They’ve also arranged a special deal where you can get a Sausage/Bacon Bap/Sandwich with a Hot Drink for £3.50 (you can’t use your usual parkrun discount with this offer).

Elf on a Shelf is RUNNNING!

Saturday 30th Dec - This will be your usual parkrun event and Len will be your RD. Did you get any groovy running gear? A cool woolly hat or a funky Christmas jumper? Bring it along and show it off to your fellow parkrunners!

Click here to volunteer for this event.

Sunday 31st Dec - New Years Eve junior parkrun will be running as normal and Andreea will be your RD.

Click here to volunteer for this event.

Monday 1st Jan - New Years Day at Great Notley parkrun! This event will start at 9am as usual, and is that one time of year where you can run at TWO parkruns on the same day.

Local events like Chelmsford Central and Colchester Castle will be running events that start at 10.30am it is perfectly possible to DRIVE CAREFULLY to either of these events. We strongly recommend you research these other events before hand, check car parking, assembly points and so on before New Years Day. Consider saving a Panda or two by car sharing too!

Christmas Running Gear!

These events are only made possible with the superb volunteer help that the events receive from yourselves and your friends and family.

Please take a mo’ and have a look at both our Future Roster and the junior Future Roster and see if you can help out.

If you’d like to volunteer for any of the events above you can do so by dropping us an email to the usual address, greatnotleyhelpers@parkrun.com or greatnotley-juniorshelpers@parkrun.com if you’d like to help at any of the junior parkrun events.

Event #136 (1st Jan 2017) New Year’s Day

Good evening all!

On a chilly New years Day we set up the course ready for what we thought might be a fairly quiet run. People would surely be nursing sore heads from the previous nights festivities, or maybe would just be too tired from staying up late to ring in the new year? How wrong we were! This week there were 221 runners, of whom 48 were first timers and 24 recorded new Personal Bests! Representatives of 29 different athletics clubs took part.

We could not believe how many people came to visit our parkrun. Lots of people came to us first and then nipped off to Chelmsford to "do the double" as new years day is the only day of the year you can run two parkruns in one day. It was nice to see lots of new faces among our regulars.

Striders

Now the bits you really want..........
Male placings:
Mark NEWTON (VM35-39) of Springfield Striders RC, was first over the line in 17:25 - first appearance.
James SMITH (VM35-39) of Springfield Striders RC, was second over the line in 17:37 - has been first to finish on 4 previous occasions.
Russell DAVIES (VM35-39) of Springfield Striders RC, was third over the line in 18:16 - was first to finish once before.

Female placings:
Emma PRIDEAUX (VW40-44) of Billericay Striders RC, was first (17th overall) over the line in 20:54 - first appearance.
Emma STEVENS (SW25-29) of BlackWater Tri Club, was second (22nd overall) over the line in 21:29 - has been first to finish on 3 previous occasions.
Kate MILLS (VW45-49) (Unattached) was third (30th overall) over the line in 22:13 - has been first to finish on 2 previous occasions.

The full set of results can be accessed here.

The following runners recorded the best Age Grade scores:
Paul JEGGO (VM55-59) was graded 80.59% for the time 19:14 (5th overall).
Mark NEWTON (VM35-39) was graded 76.17% for the time 17:25 (first overall).
Tom DAVIES (VM55-59) was graded 75.86% for the time 20:26 (12th overall).

Here is a little extra fact for you...... as I mentioned in the runners brief today our 108th finisher would be our 20,000th finisher since Great Notley parkrun started and a total of 100,000km would have been run on our course with that finish.
Drum roll please......... our 108th finisher was....... Emily Predebon! who just so happens to be volunteering on the 7th handing out finish tokens.

Start

With that we will see you on the 7th ready for another parkrun, don't forget to #touchthebird and thank the wonderful marshals on your way round. We had such a fab response to our plea for volunteers on facebook during the week, but the next few weeks are looking light so if you haven't volunteered in a while email us or drop us a line on facebook.
See you under the bird guys!

Festive Special Events

You are very fortunate to be in a corner of the country where there is just so much for runners over the festive period - and we'll do our absolute best to capture it all here. If there's anything you think we've missed, then please drop us an e-mail.

Now before you pop on your Santa's Hat and pop a load of mince pies in the oven, there are quite a few events on and we still need quite a few volunteers. Both Christmas Day and New Year's Day special events are the DAY BEFORE our normal Saturday parkrun events. So what would be really appreciated is if you lovely people can start to volunteer now. Everyone that volunteers over the festive period will get a groovy festive reminder e-mail too!

IMPORTANT TRAVEL ADVICE!
If you're planning on travelling between events on the same day - PLAN AHEAD! There should be plenty of travel time between events with NO NEED to drive recklessly.
Car share wherever possible, it's better for the Pandas and you can save a bit money on car parking & fuel!

Winter is Coming
It may come as no surprise that all of the above events will be subject to the weather and surface conditions. Check the sites regularly to avoid disappointment! Also, it's a good idea to dress appropriately, if you're attending multiple events on the same day consider taking a spare set of dry clothes.

Cake n' Fun
Don't forget to bring some cake, treats and to dress up at the various special events! Whether you feel the urge to come as Rudolf or wear your latest Christmas Jumper, it's all appreciated!
