It’s Christmas

We know, we know, but it is that time of year when the mind starts turning to thinking about sorting out the presents, writing letters to Father Christmas and of course planning for parkruns over the yuletide period. Well it is in the Greenwich parkrun household - we've been preparing since the start of September!

Christmas

There will be plenty of opportunities to get in the festive spirit at Avery Hill Park with several runs happening over the Christmas and New Year season:

Saturday 21 December - this will be a Santa special and a chance to don the red and white, festive headgear and the tinsel.

Wednesday 25 December, Christmas day - there will be a run at 9am and our friends in the cafe are opening especially for us! We think they deserve a big thank you!

Saturday 28 December - the usual 9am run

Wednesday 1 January, New Year’s Day  - We'll be starting at 9am while other nearby runs are starting later (all to be confirmed):

  • 10am: Bromley, Hilly Fields
  • 1030am: Bexley, Catford, Southwark

Your only opportunity each year to fit in two parkruns on the same day. Are you up to the challenge?

For those runners visiting family and friends over the festive period keen to find out what parkruns are taking place elsewhere in the country there is a handy Christmas compendium list.

It’s Christmas!

Ho, Ho, Ho!

For those of you that have had your head under the covers the past few Saturday mornings you may not have noticed that it's Christmas next week. We'll be having a couple of festive runs, including a Santa run, over the next week to celebrate. Details below:

  • Saturday 21 December - Greenwich parkrun Santa run. Dig out your Santa suits, reindeer ears and join us for a fun run. In the evening we'll be having some festive drinks at the Hare & Billet in Blackheath from 7:30pm.
  • Wednesday 25 December - Christmas Day run starting as usual at 9am. Feel free to come in fancy dress! This will also be Greenwich parkrun's 200th run!
  • Saturday 28 December - The Turkey Busting run starting at 9am.
  • Wednesday 1 January - New Year's Day run starting at 9am. There's also an option of running a second parkrun with Hilly Fields parkrun starting at 10am. Check out the parkrun Christmas Compendium for other options.

We hope you can join us over the festive period. If not, have a wonderful Christmas and we'll see you in the New Year!

Finally, if you're thinking about New Year's resolutions why not commit to volunteering at least three times next year. It's really easy to volunteer - just follow the simple steps below:

1. Update your volunteering options on your personal profile page. Follow the link to "manage my profile" which can be found in any of our newsletters and in any of your run results emails. Once in "Your Links" please click email options and opt in (and out) of receiving volunteer emails.

2. Take a look at the Future Roster on our website. If you like the look of anything, send greenwichhelpers@parkrun.com an email with your full name, your athlete ID (the number under your barcode) and let us know when you'd like to volunteer. Or have a chat with the event team at the run, or even better at coffee afterwards, but do also send the team an email. We'll get back to you confirming times and what volunteer role you can fill.
