Gunpowder parkrun event number 116, 25 January 2014

It may have been very wet underfoot but this didn't discourage runners from attending Gunpowder parkrkun this week. We had a very respectable 107 finishers of whom 12 were first timers and 23 recorded new PBs. No doubt, our numbers are being boosted by the many 2014 New Year's Resolutions to get out there and run! If we get more than 109 runners our Finish Token Volunteer will have to "break open" the second ring of numbers - a milestone I think we will be reaching soon!

Men's and Women's Annual Points Competition

We are roughly a quarter of the way into the 2014 Annual Points Competition (anniversary: end of October 2014).  Emma Rivers - 2nd Place in the 2013 Competition is currently in 1st place (1223), with Sarah Grogan in 2nd place (1170) and Wendy Reddaway (1126) in 3rd place.

Of last year's Men's Annual Points Competition winners, Jon Waight - 1st Place in 2013 is currently in 2nd Place (1232) - just 13 points behind Paul Reddaway (1245) who is in 1st Place. Martin McSloy is currently in 3rd Place (1197).

Gunpowder parkrun started on 22nd October 2011, and since then 1,154 different runners, including participants from 136 athletics clubs, have completed 6,813 runs covering a total distance of 34,065 km, and there have been 1,522 new Personal Bests.

The women's record is held by Vicky GILL who ran in a time of 00:18:36 on 2012-01-07 (event number 12).
The men's record is held by Shaun COLLINS who ran in a time of 00:15:24 on 2013-04-27 (event number 77).

Gunpowder parkrun event number 113: 4th January 2014

Milestone passed as our first Gunpowder parkrunner completes 100 Home runs!

Crossing the finish line this week was a very special person - Derek Weedon, who has attended Gunpowder parkrun from its very first event.  Not only has he managed to clock up100 home runs at Gunpowder park - and in so doing become the FIRST to achieve this - he has also managed to fit in a variety of volunteer roles.  Well done Derek, we knew you could do it!

To ensure maximum embarrassment, the Gunpowder Office Crew secretly organized a special Community Café with the usual tea/coffee/cake but with the addition of a little champagne and a celebration cake made expertly by John Bennett   To commemorate the occasion we presented Derek with a special mug - with his mugshot on - that was to be unique.  However, someone in the factory must have been having that 'Friday feeling' as TWO identical mugs were delivered - and now Derek has a second mug to annoy his rivals with when they come round for a cuppa.  Thank you everyone who helped to organize this surprise party and thanks for keeping it such a well guarded secret!
