London Cardiff 24 is a unique team experience for runners. A group with mixed abilities is able to compete in a race together starting in the Twickenham area on Friday 30th May and finishing in Cardiff Millennium stadium on the evening of Saturday 31st May.

There are 24 stages which vary from 20 minutes running to 2 hours. Teams have to work together to navigate between stages and support their runner over each stage. There are team stages as well where the whole team runs together. The final mile is an example-  which has teams running together into Millennium stadium to finish. You see yourselves on the big screens as the music from the after race party rocks out.

A team needs 8-12 runners, some of whom need to be able to run something like 5k/10k and others who need to be marathon fit. There are 24 individual legs which range from 3 miles to 13 miles but don’t worry too much - there are ten legs which are less than 5 miles and only four legs over 10 miles.  Each person in the team is expected to run two individual legs each and the three team legs (all under 2 miles); however each team can split up the legs between their runners in any way they like. Often teams will run in pairs at night, or cycle alongside one of their runners. The golden rule is that one runner in your team has to being running at all times.

Gunpowder parkrun 1st Anniversary

Officially our 1st Anniversary is due to be celebrated on 27th October, however we will actually be celebrating the anniversary on Saturday 20th October. There will be tea, coffee, cake, bacon sandwiches and a bit of sparkle along with a couple of key awards!

I can't really believe that it has been almost a year already and it has passed by so quickly. It has been a fantastic year and I personnally have loved every minute of it from first finding out about parkrun, to meeting our first team of volunteers and setting the run in motion. We started from a small number of 22 for our first run and have doubled that simply by word of mouth and I would like to say a massive thanks to our volunteers as well as our runners who manage to make Gunpowder parkrun so brilliant each and every week!

If you are able to stay after the run on 20th October and help us celebrate that would be great and you would be most welcome!
