Please note that from the 7th of May, Hackney Marshes parkrun will be changing!

As mentioned at the previous couple of parkruns, we are changing the location of the start/finish area, and are also changing the route of our parkrun. This is because the East Marsh (which we currently use for a substantial chunk of the course) is being closed off in preparation for use as a coach park during the 2012 Olympic Games and will not reopen until late 2013.

Change of start/finish area

The start/finish area will be relocated from the old changing sheds to the recently completed Hackney Marshes Centre. We currently run past this impressive rust-coloured building on our running route. The Centre has excellent facilities for us to use, including:

·         Changing/shower facilities

·         Secure storage and lockers

·         Plenty of free parking for both cyclists and drivers

Over the summer, we also expect there to be catering facilities available, so we will be able to get a nice cuppa after the run and the race director will have the ability to process the results immediately after the event.

Change of parkrun route

We have thought long and hard about how we can use this opportunity to improve on the existing route for our runners (in terms of speed, ease of use, ambiance, accuracy, winter-proofing etc) and also for our volunteers (in terms of marshalling, marking out the course and risk identification/mitigation).

With this in mind, we are proposing a 5km 'there and back' route, starting and finishing at the Hackney Marshes Centre. That is, 2.5km in one direction, turn around and then 2.5km back the same way.

The best way to illustrate this Is to show it on a map:,-0.030899&spn=0.015982,0.030019&t=h&z=16&msid=205260270491167640362.0004a014ecb5c9f19b56c

As usual, we will use yellow arrows to mark out the course and avoid confusion and will endeavour to have a marshal at the Turning Point, if available volunteer numbers allow.

Have your say!

The Hackney Marshes event team would very much like to know if you have any feedback on the proposed changes and if there are any specific requests/comments you have regarding the way that we run things. This parkrun is very much 'owned' by those who use it (i.e. YOU) and we want to make it the best possible local event that we can.

So please get in touch if you would like to have your say or provide any general feedback by emailing us at:

Best wishes,
