Event number 161
25th December 2019
And so, it came to pass that every year on December 25th, hundreds of people from Essex and beyond would descend upon Hadleigh Country Park to mark the start of the Christmas festivities with a merry little 5k run. Yes, we have become a tradition, and a growing one at that! This year, the Christmas Day parkrun at Hadleigh attracted a course record of 320 runners, smashing the previous record of 265 set this time last year.
‘It came upon the midnight clear.’ ‘It,’ meaning ‘320 runners,’ and ‘midnight,’ meaning ‘morning.’ The carol finally makes sense.
None of this would be possible, of course, without the efforts of a special group of people. Just like Santa has his elves, parkrun has its volunteers. With that in mind, let us give an extra special, festive ‘thank you’ to our Christmas Day Hi-Vis Heroes:
John BALL, Sarah BALL, Jack BALL, Gary BRIGHT, Amie BRIGHT, Beau BURKETT, Thomas CARSWELL, Sally CLARKE, Edward FENTON, Fenton HOPKINS, Valerie JARVIS, Patricia KEOGH, Nathan REEVES, Debra SAUND, Zach SMITH, Lee WALLINGS, Elizabeth WARRINGTON, Samuel WARRINGTON, Olivia WARRINGTON, Emma WARRINGTON, and Victoria WARRINGTON.
We all know that parkrun cannot happen without volunteers. If you were inspired by the generosity of this special group of people who gave up their time to allow us to run on Christmas morning, please visit https://www.parkrun.org.uk/hadleigh/volunteer/ for more information on how to get involved. Signing up to volunteer once a month makes for a great New Year’s resolution! Just saying.
Elves only get one day off a year. We are lucky that so many of them decided to spend it with us!
Congratulations to Adam SMITH, who completed his 100th parkrun today! The best present anyone could ask for!

If you are running with a child under the age of 11, please keep them within arm’s reach. Even if they are invisible.
Dabbing? That’s so last decade.
And now, borrowed from my Southend parkrun run reports, it’s everybody’s favourite feature…Hadleigh’s Random Results!
First Timer, Katie KEAM-GEORGE (VW35-39) was 15th across the line (109th overall) with a time of 29:55. Congratualtions on completing your first parkrun, Katie!

Santa stopped drinking that fizzy drink he advertises and took up running this year. The results speak for themselves. Someone give that man a mince pie! He’s earned it! I do miss the beard though.
29 speedy so-and-sos must have been keen to get home and open their presents, as they set new Personal Best times! Congratulations to:
Oliver RANDALL, Matibini MATIBINI, Adam HEMSWORTH, Toby JONES, Lewis BELCHER, Nikki BAYNES, Michael GREENSLADE, Matt BARRETT, Phil HIGGINS, Jeremy WILKES, Mark AUSTIN, Rebecca HURST, Otis LUTON, Michael Carson YOUNG, Jesse BURKETT, Thomas CARSWELL, Felix BACON, Marie WAITE, Rachael L THORNTON, Amanda DAVIES, Harry JIMBROWN, Michelle LEE, Susan SMITH, Max DAY, Nicola DAY, Florence BALL, Katherine JACKSON, Nathan ELLIS, Aiden ELLIS.
In the spirit of Christmas, my highly coveted but entirely fictional PB-of-the-week award is going to be shared by everyone who achieved one today. No, of course it’s not a sneaky way of awarding it to myself! How could you even suggest such a thing?
That’s about it from me. All that’s left is for me to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Be kind to one another. And happy running; however slow or fast you may be.
Same time next year?
