15th December – Something in the air

Ice, ice baby!

I thought that may be apt considering the freezing weather we all endured on Saturday morning, it was even likened to trekking to Everest, just with more oxygen!

Due to the poor weather conditions a pre event risk assessment was undertaken with the green light given around 8.10. We had a bit of a moment at 8.40 when we had volunteers but no runners! Turns out you were all just being sensible and hiding out in your cars keeping warm.

A small number of 1st timers joined us, well done to you for beginning your parkrun journey, especially on a day as cold as today!

We also welcomed some parkrun tourists some braving to venture over from Manchester to Gods own country .

We hope you all enjoyed spending the morning with us and that you had a drink to warm you up, thank you to Simon for the yummy flapjack.

We celebrated;

Harrison’s 16th Birthday weekend - thank you for the chocolates

Matt Thomas’ 50th parkrun but Matt kept it quiet

Monica also kept her birthday quiet and was relived that someone didn't mention it

and 13 runners came away with new PB’s including me yippee !

Well done and Congratulations everyone!

A special thank you goes out to all the lovely volunteers. Today was one of those days you wish you were running up Harrisons Hill to keep warm!

Please remember that if it wasn’t for these amazing ladies and gents then your local parkrun wouldn’t be able to go ahead. The volunteer roster is currently looking sparse for Christmas Day and beyond, if you want to give volunteering a go then please give us a shout, it would be greatly appreciated.

Stay safe during the bad weather everyone and we shall see you all again on the 22nd December
