Ben Shacklock (VM35-39) not only led the 458 park runners home today in an awe inspiring 17 m 56sec he also recorded a PB! The conditions were fair with no breeze and the sun was not to uncomfortable.Andrew Harris was the second male finisher (45-49) in 19m 13sec so well done guys .
The leading lady Julie Masterman (VM 55-59) also recorded a P.B. in 21m 44sec following her Alexandra Whapples ( VW 50-54) ran 22m 42sec so again well done to both of you .
This was my 10 th appearance here from York and I usually enjoy the three lap course and today was no exception with a slight alteration due to a group of caravans .Though I have ran it in the past in miserable wet and windy conditions!!
There were two milestones today Dominic Brown (45-49) was running his 100th parkrun in a fine time of 23 m 14s and Sarah McCann (VW 45-49) running her fiftieth parkrun in 31m 34s so congratulations to you both and like everyone else down to the last finisher keep coming regardless of times as parkrun is all about the social atmosphere as well as trying to improve your fitness .
Being a young pensioner myself I always like to mention the oldest participants in the field , today the oldest gentleman was Barry Cottam (VM 75 -79) who ran a superb 36m 18s and Janet Jarvis also in the (VW 75-79) category who ran an excellent 35 m 23sec great stuff who said that when you get to a certain age it's pipe and slippers lol !!! one person I must mention I noticed that a certain gentleman Martin Pearson has run an amazing 526 Park Runs I think his local one is Middlesborough as he has ran 300 there !! so maybe he was visiting today. I am taken aback by your commitment Martin a fantastic achievement and one for everyone to take note for their future goals .
Finally Park Run would not happen without our intrepid volunteers so I think I speak for everyone who ran today we all appreciate your hard work and if anyone I thinking about volunteering please do it as its fun also and lots of various roles ......" I'LL be Back " Dave from York
Just a few reminders:
Post run refreshments - Join us at Caffe Marconi (2 Princes Square) each week after parkrun to catch up, process the results, have a coffee and a good old chat. The food (oh my, the cakes..!) and drinks are great and Sarah and her team are huge fans of parkrun! It's good fun and you can even get your result early!
In Case of Emergency - Please double check that your emergency contact details are complete and up to date on your parkrun profile. You'll find a link to your profile on your weekly results email and newsletters or via this How can I access my profile / account? link. It only takes a few moments, put could really help us to help you if and when you most need it.
Barcodes - Is your printed barcode looking tired or not scanning easily? There are a range of tough and durable plastic parkrun barcode ID tags and parkrun wristbands available via http://www.parkrun-barcode.org.uk/ These are the only UK authorised and professionally printed tags and feature the parkrun branding and logo, your athlete details and can also be personalised with your ICE (In Case of Emergency) telephone number and additional information including specific medical details.
