The marvellous midweek message

Well it's midweek Wednesday Wonderfulness, which means it’s 3 sleeps until parkrunday!

Ignore whatever it is the weather outside is trying to do. Is it hailing, raining, sun shining? Whatever it is, it’s daylight saving time and don’t we just love it when the longer daylight evenings arrive. Saturday’s forecast is for dry and perfect PB weather, well that’s what the parkrun fairy tells me, so it must be true.

We’ve got a marvellously full roster populated by a splendid set of volunteers.

See you on parkrunday!

The fabulous midweek message

The midweek message

This week in the sporting world we have seen some truly fabulous footage of the Brownlee brothers at the recent Triathlon World Series. For those of you who’ve no idea what I’m talking about, fantastic images and video footage of Alistar helping his brother Jonathan complete the last 700m of the event have been all over the news and social media. What amazing Sportsmanship! There have been questions asked about whether the brothers broke the rules or not, personally I think who cares! The images are truly inspirational and have definitely helped motivate me into action this week. So if you are equally motivated, then Harrogate parkrun is only a few more days away. I can’t wait! See you on Saturday fellow parkrunners!

The fabulous midweek message

It’s the middle of the week, so that can mean only one thing, the fabulous midweek message! This is our last one of February, which means we’ll soon be jumping head long into March. And with sunny days like today, you realise that Spring really isn’t that far away. With the wonderful promise of warmer weather and those ever so slightly longer days, let’s celebrate and start the last Saturday of February with another tremendous 5K at your Harrogate parkrun. Did you know, that over the previous 217 events we’ve collectively run for 2 years 294 days 13 hours 35 minutes and 8 seconds, that’s incredible isn’t it?? So let’s see if can’t make those 3 years this Saturday with a brilliant turn out of runners! The roster is full of wonderful volunteers, who are all ready for parkrunday #218. So #DFYB and we’ll see you on Saturday!

July Sweatshop monthly prizewinner

This month we'd like to recognise an extremely familiar face at Harrogate parkrun. Our prizewinner has just completed their 100th run, a great achievement consisting of 89 runs at Harrogate and a number of tourist runs as well. This person is a passionate and committed member of our community, who along with their family are seen at Harrogate parkrun nearly every Saturday. They're always there ensuring the events all run like clock-work and because they love nothing better than a Saturday morning 5K on the Stray followed by a coffee with friends.

So without further ado, please give a massive round of applause to our July 2015 Sweatshop prizewinner... Sean Brennan!

Sean - it gives us great pleasure to recognise the massive part you play in the continued success of Harrogate parkrun, you are our July 2015 Sweatshop prizewinner. We'd like to thank Sweatshop for their generosity and to congratulate Sean whose prize is a new pair of running shoes fitted at the local Sweatshop.

For those of you who came close and for all other parkrunners; thank you as always for your brilliant support, congratulations on your efforts in surpassing your personal milestones and good luck in meeting and exceeding your running goals in 2015.

Best wishes,

Harrogate parkrun

The fabulous midweek message

We hope everyone is having a fantastic week and you are all managing to make the most of the drier and brighter weather to get out there and run.

Firstly, congratulations to all those Harrogate parkrunners who took part in the Leeds Half Marathon on Sunday! We hope you had a brilliant race.

Secondly, I’m not sure how many of you are aware, but over recent years a number of local races have disappeared from the running calendar. This is a real shame, as many have been well supported and are amazing races which can easily be ran without having to venture too far afield. If you are keen to race this summer and also support the local running community, here are a few local races, over the coming weeks, that you may be interested in:

Sunday 17th May - Ripon 10

Monday 25th May – Ilkely Trail Race

Saturday 6th June – Wharfdale Trail Half Marathon

Wednesday 10th June – Otley 10

Sunday 14th June – Castle Howard 10K

Sunday 28th June – Staveley Stampede 10K

Sunday 5th July – Eccup 10 mile

If anyone would like to mention any additional races please drop us a line at and we will give them a shout out.

Enjoy the rest of your week and we’ll see you on Saturday!

April Sweatshop monthly prize winner

Our prize winner this month has been a regular at Harrogate parkrun since the end of 2012 and has reached an awesome 65 parkruns in total. The majority of their running has been on home turf and the rest at Fountains Abbey, Dulwich and Colwick parkruns. Over that time, they have pulled no less than 10 PBs out of the bag, reducing their PB by over 5 minutes – tremendous running :)

This fabulous parkrunner has volunteered on 10 occasions, with heaps of encouragement and positivity every time, no matter what the weather!

Our Sweatshop prize winner is definitely a Harrogate parkrun superstar!

Please give a huge round of applause as we award this month's Sweatshop prize to Harrogate parkrunner, Morven McPartland

Morven's prize is a brand new pair of running shoes fitted at the local Sweatshop.

We'd like to thank Sweatshop for their fantastic generosity and for those of you who came close and for all other parkrunners; thank you as always for your brilliant support, congratulations on your efforts in surpassing your personal milestones and good luck in meeting and exceeding your running goals in 2015.

Best wishes

Harrogate parkrun #161 run report

With an awesome team of volunteers looking after proceedings for event #161, and a fantastic 267 runners we had another fabulous parkrun at Harrogate on Saturday. Albeit a very slushy, muddy run bringing back lots of memories of school cross country! Despite the conditions, 21 first timers joined in the fun and we had an impressive 9 personal bests - how do they do it?!?!? Great running especially at this time of year!

This week we see Paul Hynard reach the dizzy heights of 100 parkruns - congratulations Paul. Also join me in congratulating Lorna Maxwell, who as junior joins the 10 club. Fabulous running by both of you.

Don't forget folks:

Printed barcode looking tired or not scanning easily? We have a range of tough and durable plastic parkrun barcode ID tags and parkrun wristbands available via These are the only UK authorised and professionally printed tags and feature the parkrun branding and logo, your athlete details and can also be personalised with your ICE (In Case of Emergency) telephone number and additional information including specific medical details. They come in a range of options and can be attached to a key ring, laces, and running vest zip or worn on a lanyard.

We do ask that each of you, if possible, volunteer 3 times over the year. It is thanks to our great volunteer teams that parkruns around the world continue to happen every Saturday. Harrogate is no exception and without their kindness we would not be able to put on this wonderful free event. If you would like to help out please visit for more information and then email us at to get involved.
