Event #103 – 4th March 2017
Setting off from Chelmsford at 6.15 in the dark and rain always makes me wonder what on earth I’m doing on a Saturday morning but as I got closer to the forest, the skies began to clear and the sun came up which lightened my mood no end.
My first wave of merry volunteers arrived at 7.00 and soon disappeared into the trees to set up while I was left taking in the view and setting up the hub ready for everyone else to arrive.
At 8.00 I went to open the gates and found myself in need of a person to greet our next wave of helpers and fellow parkrunners. Panicking slightly over the radio, I asked if someone could help out and up stepped my taxi driving hero, Nigel Harris, who had already set up part of the route and spotted some missing signs out on the course!! Luckily, he didn’t have the meter running!! Thank you!!
By 8.45, the car parks were full, Nigel was back in time to actually run and we were almost ready for the off!!
We had 224 runners this week, including tourists from Brighton and Norwich.
Junior runner Daisy Herrington joined the 10 club on Saturday. New members of the 50 club were Alastair Cameron, Derek Williams & Patricia Poole. Well done to everyone who celebrated a milestone at the weekend.
1st: Molly Matherton – 21.48
2nd: Claire Cadzow – 22.33
3rd: Holly Hudson – 24.09
1st: Danny Beazley - 18.40
2nd: Tim Cheshire - 18.42
3rd: Owen Haigh – 19.14
We often have people thanking us for the effort that goes into putting on parkrun but we had some really lovely comments about how friendly and helpful our volunteers were this week so I wanted to pass those comments on to you guys. Thank you so much!! The event couldn’t take place without you and I for one couldn’t cope being RD without you!
If you’re yet to volunteer or haven’t done so in a while, please consider offering your services at some point, all the roles are easy and training is provided.
If you're a faster runner & used to regularly seeing your name up in lights in these run reports, why not pick up a clipboard once you've run? Bar code scanning and the clipboard roles at the finish are all suitable for faster runners as we can hand these over to you after you’ve completed your run.
We also need some people to not run in order for everyone else to get to run. This means volunteering to marshal, perform timekeeping, finish token duties. Do you attend parkrun with family or friends? Why not ask them if they can assist the event? All they need to do is register with parkrun and either email us or message us via Facebook.
If you can volunteer for future weeks, please drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
