Event #107 – 1st April 2017

Event #107 – 1st April 2017

So, first of all, thank you to all the volunteers that helped to make my first foray as Run Director as easy as possible.   The course was set up by 7.40am by my expert team of Pre-Event Setup volunteers, all ready for 250+ people to run around.  So that just left me to set up the start/finish and make sure everything else was ready for the rest of the volunteers to arrive.

The nerves were starting to rise a bit and with some suggestions of an April Fool’s prank making me more so, which were politely declined, we started the morning’s activities.  New Runners and tourists were briefed, all marshals were in place and it was time for the main briefing.  Anyone who knows me will know that speaking in public puts me way outside my comfort zone but we have such a supportive community at Hatfield Forest parkrun that I didn’t feel too daunted by the prospect of giving the main briefing.   Anyway, enough about me, onto the run.

The Run:

This week 275 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 34 were first timers and 54 recorded new Personal Bests.  Representatives of 13 different clubs took place.

The event was made possible by 34 volunteers.

Route Change

If you are not already aware, we will be changing over to our summer route this coming Saturday.

Parking

Just a reminder that Elgins car park is now available for us to use.  This means we will be directing all runners to Elgins, with volunteers parking only at the Shell House.

Parking machines are now situated in each of the car parks.  If you are a NT member, simply scan your membership card for a ticket.  If you aren’t a NT member, a fee of £2 applies.  If the machines are available for use, please pay for parking.  If they aren’t, please make a £2 contribution to the donation pot at the NT café.

The Volunteers

Your parkrun only thrives because of the volunteers who give up some of their time on a Saturday morning & throughout the week. If you're yet to try your hand at volunteering, please consider helping us on a forthcoming parkrun day. We have many roles that can still be combined with running, meaning you can earn volunteering credit alongside your run. These roles are: Barcode Scanning (for sub 22 minute runners), Tail Runner, Token Sorting, Pre-Event Setup, Post Event Close Down, Car Parking, New Runners Briefing.

If you can volunteer for this Saturday or future weeks, please drop us an email at hatfieldforesthelpers@parkrun.com.
