What a fantastic turn out for another Hatfield Forest parkrun. This week, I did not need to panic too much about recruiting enough volunteers, which was a huge relief. So, a very happy Run Director arrived at the forest at 7am. The course was set up without a hitch, all volunteers turned up, marshals were in place and ready to cheer on the 332 runners who attended today. What could go wrong?! How about a rogue cow deciding that she wanted to go walkabout through one of the gates! Happily, the issue was sorted and the cow is with the correct herd, phew! Panic over.
However, today was also tinged with some sadness, as we said goodbye to one of our runner and volunteer stalwarts, Penny Izienicki, who is relocating to Wales. Penny started her parkrun journey at the forest in March 2015 and has a 100% record of running at the forest (53 runs in total) and started volunteering with us in 2015 also. Penny, we are going to miss you and wish you well in your new home; and hope you continue your parkrun journey.
This week 332 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 33 were first timers and 84 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 16 different clubs took place.
The event was made possible by 45 volunteers.

Your parkrun only thrives because of the volunteers who give up some of their time on a Saturday morning & throughout the week. If you're yet to try your hand at volunteering, please consider helping us on a forthcoming parkrun day. We have many roles that can still be combined with running, meaning you can earn volunteering credit alongside your run. These roles are: Barcode Scanning (for sub 22 minute runners), Tail Runner, Token Sorting, Pre-Event Setup, Post Event Close Down, Car Parking, New Runners Briefing.
If you can volunteer for this Saturday or future weeks, please drop us an email at email@example.com.
