Heartlands parkrun is cancelled on 30 May 2020: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Heartlands parkrun Event number 76 12th October 2019

And they just keep coming!

It's always great to see new runners at Heartlands, and this week was no exception.
Of the 24 first timers, 12 ran their first ever parkrun! Congratulations on making that important first step! We now have over 1800 runners with Heartlands as their home run, up another 22 in last week alone.  Welcome everybody.

Another great week with over 100 runners, and a stack of PB's. The weather forecast didn't put you off, in fact it was probably much warmer than expected.

Massive thanks as always to the hi-viz heroes, our volunteers. Worth remembering that parkrun is wholly put on by volunteers, so please do your bit every now and then and support your fellow runners. Without them (you!) there will be no parkrun.

See you all next week, and have a great weekend

Chris Walker, Co-Event Director

Heartlands parkrun – Event #75 – 05/10/2019 – The one with the dinosaur…

A very good morning to you all and a very happy 15th birthday to parkrun! Who’d have thought a small gathering of friends jogging at Bushy Park would turn into such a large community-spirited worldwide event.

Despite the overcast conditions, 168 runners, walkers and joggers braved the drizzle to attend parkrun in Heartlands in Pool today. The location is easy to find from the instructions given on the Heartlands parkrun course page and you even get greeted by a friendly car park marshal.

Previously known for being an active tin mining site for over 400 years, Robinson’s Shaft, which is where Heartlands parkrun is situated, is a spot of great historical significance. After a revamp funded by the National Lottery, Heartlands was re-opened to the public in 2012, and continues to thrive as a place of interest today.

The Heartlands parkrun course itself is very flat, and mostly on tarmac path or stone gravel, so I would recommend road shoes for this one. There is a small smidgen of a hill at one stage, but this is barely noticeable compared to the hills at the likes of two other Cornish parkruns(!).

A big well done to all those who took part today, including those who achieved PBs, personal goals and milestones; a special mention goes to James Rockall, from Old Deer Park parkrun, who celebrated his 100th different parkrun today - welcome to the Cowell Club!

Throughout the parkrun today there were plenty of hi-vis heroes helping to keep us safe all along the course. It was lovely to be greeted with a smile, applause and words of encouragement from each and every marshal I passed, and I’m sure this helped to make a massive difference to everyone else’s parkrun too, so thank you very much!

The marshals are part of many of the wonderful volunteers who give up their time each week to make parkrun happen. A big thank you to all 30 of this week’s volunteers:

• Alex WALLIS • Christopher PARADINE • Damian COOK • Darren HEARLEY • David PARADINE • Eddy SMITH • Edward CHAPMAN • Evie-Bo CALLAWAY • Hannah MADELEY • James ACKERLEY • Joanna GULLIVER • John HORTON • Kathryn MARSH • Kenneth OSBORN • Lindsey PARADINE • Lorna BURTON • Mark HAYES • Marlene GROBLER • Matthew CALLAWAY • Matthew COOK • Michelle BENNEY • Neil CARHART • Nicholas MARSH • Noah CALLAWAY • Ntsebo GARBETT • Patricia ASHWOOD • Rebecca HARRIS • Stephanie BENNETT • Susan MCCARRA • Suzanne WILLCOX•

Volunteering is a really fun and rewarding way to be part of the parkrun family, so if you haven’t already tried it, please do give it a go! There are so many different roles to choose from and you’ll be shown the ropes by the parkrun core team, so it really is as simple as that.

This week 168 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 41 were first timers and 20 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 25 different clubs took part.

Heartlands parkrun Event number 71 7th September 2019

Runners from far and wide as usual!

Including one runner over from Spain for a wedding - just gotta get that parkrun fix!

We were also joined by The Swap Box - a great local initiative to reuse unwanted run gear. Reduces unwanted things going to landfill, and also helps out runners who are looking for something new to them. We'll see them again soon at Heartlands.

As always, massive thanks for our volunteers - the Hi-Viz Heroes! You only have to volunteer a couple of times a year to spread the roles out. Everyone is a volunteer, including the Event and Run Directors.

Heartlands parkrun Event number 70 31st August 2019

Run report by Karen Parker.

I arrived at parkrun today with my husband, son and a small speedy French man. This was our visitor's 3rd different Cornish parkrun and he declared he likes this one the best! We each ran at different speeds and got different times, but had an enormous amount of fun. For me, that's what parkrun is all about!

112 intrepid souls got out of bed and bravely turned up to walk, jog or run on this four seasons in one parkrun kind of weather day!

Heartlands is World Heritage Site and an unbeatable venue for a parkrun. It has beautiful botanical gardens, an incredible adventure playground, a lake with a bridge to run over, an engine house, massive winding gear and today a whole brightly coloured inflatable play village and a very impressive steam engine. Oh, and a really nice cafe. (Very nice muffins.)

This was the first time I have run this course since it became 3 laps and it is SO much better.  It's a bit twisty but there were plenty of cheerful marshalls to make sure we stayed on track!

There were 33 first timers  (11 first ever parkrunners- welcome to parkrun!)

There were 19 marvellous pbs.

#Hats off awards.
