Henley Wood parkrun, Oswestry is cancelled on 24 October 2020: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Henley Wood VIRTUAL parkrun #20

17th October 2020

Thanks to our Run Director this week, BBC Radio Shropshire’s Ryan Kennedy. As well as the 20th virtual parkrun, this week would have been the second anniversary of the real Henley Wood parkrun, Oswestry. It’s been a sad second year with floods and bad weather causing the cancellation of several events during the winter and then, of course, the coronavirus shutting down everything just as the weather was improving! It’s been great to have so many people joining in the virtual parkrun and we will continue to look forward to the re-starting of real parkrun whenever that may be.

Welcome to Chloe Edwards, Ann Norwood, Matthew Craddock and Ray Pickett who joined in in for the first time this week and Cheryl Ann Morris,  first timer and also  top lady in the results table.

Congratulations to Richard Thornton, Simon Davies, Denise Hufton, Chris Norwood, Denise Polhill, Jamie Ashworth and Poppy Ashworth who all achieved Henley Wood VIRTUAL parkrun personal best times. Some cracking times achieved.

Well done to Ian Gibson who tops the results table this week and thank you to Sarah Grimley for being our tailwalker this week with a colourful autumnal route around Chirk Castle.

Thanks everyone and see you next week.

Henley Wood VIRTUAL parkrun #19

10th October 2020

Vicky Brayne, Run Director this week, had everyone in stitches with her video briefing the Drenewydd Farm cows on their very first Henley Wood VIRTUAL parkrun. We don’t know what times the girls achieved but they looked to be going really well and definitely inspired lots of cow related puns and word plays throughout the day!

Walkers were really well represented this week with some serious competition for the tail walking role – always a popular volunteer role at real parkrun too! Thanks to Curtis Langley for seeing everyone safe home again this week.

Congratulations to Richard Thornton, Claire Cherrie, Julie Oliver, Mary Thornton, Denise Hufton, Chris Norwood, Katie McArdle who all achieved Henley Wood VIRTUAL Personal Bests and to Mark McArdle who not only achieved a HW VPR PB but tops the results table this week too.

There were some great photos of lovely autumn colour this week and of smiling runners, joggers and walkers. Do keep them coming, they brighten up everyone’s day.

Thanks everyone and hope to see you again next week.

Henley Wood VIRTUAL parkrun #18

3rd October 2020

This week saw the first singing HW VPR Run Director. Kelly Clarke greeted everyone with a cheery song and an upbeat reminder of how the virtual parkrun works. A combination of filthy weather for many and the virtual London Marathon the next day for quite a few regular virtual parkrunners took a predictable toll on the number of participants this week but well done to everyone who braved the weather and got out to run, jog and walk.

Welcome to Ian Gibson who joined HW VPR for the first time and topped the results table this week. Congratulations to Chris Norwood and Richard Thornton who, despite the less than ideal conditions, both achieved Henley Wood VIRTUAL Personal Bests.

Tail walker this week was Curtis Langley (and Nellie), warming up for the virtual London Marathon. Thank you for seeing everyone back safely!

Thanks everyone and hope to see you again next week.

Henley Wood VIRTUAL parkrun #17

26th September 2020

Autumn has arrived for most of us but it was a lovely day for running, jogging and walking in most places this weekend. Run Directors Clare and Berwyn Davies reminded everyone of the rules from a sunny and breezy spot in Wales complete with bunting to mark what would, in less strange times, have been Clare’s 50th parkrun.

Welcome to Chris Norwood, Lorraine Elliott, Victoria Budd and Poppy and Jamie Ashworth who all joined HW VPR for the first time. A big round of applause to Victoria Budd who, walking with her crutches, combined her 5th Race for Life for Cancer Research with her 1st HW VPR.
