#236 22/06/2019 Sunshine, Smiles and Jon’s Debut

Hereford parkrun stats...

Hereford parkrun started on 11th October 2014. Since then 6,133 participants have completed 35,824 parkruns covering a total distance of 179,120 km, including 6,307 new Personal Bests. A total of 384 individuals have volunteered 3,451 times.

This week 237 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 49 were first timers and 35 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 19 different clubs took part.

The sunshine made for a hot run this morning, but provided a lovely chance for everyone to linger, cheer on others as they finished and make new friends.  We hope your look forward to meeting your parkrun friends on Saturdays just as much as you love your run.

Huge thank you to the volunteers who made it all possible this morning and especially to Jonathan who made his Run Director debut.  Today's high-viz heroes:  Amy GILLIGAN  •  Andrew PANTLAND  •  Anthony CHAMPKEN  •  Barbara SPANJERS  •  Eva TYLER  •  Jacky HART  •  Jager LI  •  Jonathan EDWARDS  •  Mike SHAW  •  Natasha PRIVETT  •  Paul GILBERT  •  Philip HART  •  Sally LEE  •  Sarah BENNETT  •  Zoe PRIVETT

Today also saw the last Duke of Edinburgh volunteering from Natasha and Zoe.  Many thanks to both of them for helping us out over the past several months.  We wish them well as they work to complete the Bronze Award.

Don't forget next Saturday (27th) Pacers will be provided by the Hereford Couriers

Congratulations also to Clare Mullin.  Clare has completed her 50th Different Event today (known by UK tourists as a ‘half-Cowell’ or ‘Cow’ after Chris and Linda Cowell who were the first male and female parkrunners to do 100 different events). Clare has done over 100 parkruns in total, many at her home parkrun, Cannon Hill in Birmingham and she also recently completed the UK parkrun alphabet - she's off to Poland in a few weeks to get a Z for the full set - at least until someone starts a parkrun beginning with an X somewhere in the world. Clare had her 50 events printed on her milestone 50 t-shirt so she was very relieved that Hereford was on today, since Hereford had already been printed on the t-shirt!! Well done Clare :)

The event was made possible by 15 volunteers, thank you for your support:

#180 Welsh Invasion and Mr Tumble loses his shirt.

Not a cloud in the sky or a puddle in site as 189 ran, jogged or walked our latest parkrun. Conditions were ideal to welcome 38 First Timers and have 37 PB's recorded.

We had parkrun tourists from Gloucestershire, Buckinghamshire, Merseyside, Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey, Ireland and Wales. Delighted to see you all, although our Welsh visitors were reminded not to be anywhere near Hereford Cathedral on Sunday as under an ancient law "it is legal to kill a Welshman in Hereford, but only in Cathedral Close on a Sunday with a longbow from exactly 12 yards". Urban myth - we would love to see your happy smiley faces again soon.

Thank you to all our volunteers without whom there would be no parkrun and Mr Tumble wouldn't be re-united with his T shirt!
