Saturday's parkrun was a glorious celebration of International Women's day and This Girl Can. In honour of the day we had an all-female volunteer roster - thank you to the amazing 26 women who made my 1st Run Director event so easy and FUN !

I can hardly believe that my decision on a Saturday in October 2014 to go to Highbury Fields for a run would so completely transform my life. I had started running 4 months earlier but was struggling to motivate myself so a friend recommended parkrun. Like most first timers, I had no idea what to expect so I arrived early and nervously tried to figure out where to go and what to do. From day 1, I was welcomed by this amazing group of runners and volunteers and so I came back again and again and again. I became more confident and ambitious and before I knew it I was signing up and enjoying 10k (and a couple of 10 mile) runs.

So here I am almost 6 years later and my Saturday morning, rain or shine, is simply not complete without Highbury Fields parkrun. I can let you into a secret though - it isn't the running that keeps me coming back as I haven't been able to run for almost a year. I keep coming every Saturday for all the great friends that I have made and continue to make - and to cheer, support and be inspired by all the people who walk, jog and run our course.

So congratulations to the 456 people who ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 89 were first timers and 69 recorded new Personal Bests. You are all AMAZING! A special shout out for our Milestone runners - 100 for Chris GORMAN & Peter BURKE and 150 for Highbury Fields regular Julian OYESIKU and Highbury Fields 1st timer Lucy WILSON-SHAW - and to our visitors from near and far including Leeds, Australia, Neil GREGORY from South Birmingham, as well as the wonderful London Front Runners and of course the fabulous Mini Mermaids.
